As a female driver of a 40' DP, what should I know/do if I have a front tire blow out while driving?

There is a video out by Michelin. I found it here. Watch it and you'll be better prepared. The instructions are counter-intuitive.

Those poles along the mediums can cause way to much damage to any vehicle that is much larger than the retaining wall. Never through about how much damage can happen when they add things other into a retaining wall.

I've been driving for a lot of years, going back to when recaps were common and tires all wore out before 12,000 miles. One thing that I learned was that with a blowout the best reaction was to accelerate slowly and hold the wheel steady. When things have stabilized, slowly start to pull off of the road, or any safe area. DO NOT touch the brakes. Let the vehicle slow down itself. DO NOT worry about any damage to your wheel or coach. It can all be repaired.
The best thing is to just be prepared NOT to over-react when you hear the loud bang, or feel the coach start to get mushy. Blown out tires are really not that big of a problem. Anyone that has watched any of the chase scenes on the TV news know that the criminals can still drive pretty good even after running over the spike strip with one, two, or even four, flat tires. It takes a little more of your attention, but it is something that is easily dealt with, IF you are prepared.

It is very hard to prepare for an event like this. Being attentive at all times to what you are doing and what is going on with the vehicle when you are the operator is the best defense. Sometimes you will get a short indication of a problem before a tire fails (vibration) sometimes you don't. The thing you cannot do is jerk the wheel hard and slam on the brakes when it happens. That is a recipe for a crash. You lift from the accelerator, keep it as straight as possible and let it slow down to a safe speed before attempting to brake lightly and get it stopped.

Another testament to keeping an eye on your tires and replacing them when they're too old to run safely. This man may have done all those things but in the case of a blowout, that's all any of us can do. The account says that it was a LF blowout so that means there was probably a witness that saw it go before the crash.
