We had an ugly encounter on the weekend with a fellow camper. A couple walking their dog decided to walk right through the middle of our campsite to a pathway behind us while we were having dinner. My wife asked them not to cut through our site but go around to the other access point. They turned around and walked away suggesting we not be rude. My wife was firm but not rude about it.
As they walked away one of our kids saw the guy spit a mouthful of beer over the hood of our car. We called the park office/park police and reported it. They sent a cruiser out about an hour later just as the couple were just coming back to their campsite from their walk. The police officer went over and had a chat with him.
We cannot understand why some people believe they have the right to do something like this when they are clearly infringing on our site and privacy. That's my rant for today.

I have observed different people have different perceptions of campground ediquitte. You two obviously differed. He was wrong for what he is alleged to have done. You did the proper thing to report it.

I don't own the site I'm on and there's nothing in campground rules that state you can't cut through occupied sites, that I've seen. I don't do it but also don't care if others cut through, just so it's not a parade. Now, if they spit on my truck they better have health insurance
This comment is not to infer the OP was out of line in any way...but, .....dang, there are some weird people out there..
We stayed in a park in Az this past winter..across the road was parked an older Class A with a 45ish year old man and his wife...he was disabled from an accident at a military base, he told us...and was receiving a settlement. Apparently, 3 months after we got there, his insurance claimed he was not really disabled......which threw him over the top......
He confronted me, claiming I had spied on him, taken videos, and turned them in to his insurance...in other words, that I was a hired plant to uncover fraud....he referred to a 9mm pistol that he had...he was quite violent, but didn't assualt me.
We broke camp earlier than we had planned, the next morning.....glad to be away from there....and more aware that although most people campiing are just great, there are some with problems.
Ah! another reason why camping my own back yard is so pleasing! We live in the country and there's nothing but a corn field behind us. On the front of the house, across the road, there's nothing but a bean field. But, those darned coyotees howling occasionally and that stray cat that crosses our "campsite" every now and then and get's our dog upset, well ... that's another matter! I've not had the cat or the coyotees spit on anyting "yet"!
Sheesh! People sure can be nasty, can't they? You handled the situation quite elequently! Good job!

We had several fellow campers cutting through our site this last winter. They came through day and night, sometimes middle of the night we would hear folks talking loudly as they walked through. One fell over my Sat dish in the dark. I don't mind the folks that cut through on the edges of the site, but many would walk through within 4' or 5' of the RV when we were not out. I guess part of the problem may have been my fault as we took a site near the restroom so they cut through to get there. But with 50 years camping under our belt I am seeing more and more people cut through sites. Just a sign of the times.
Since when does it need to be a "written rule" not to cut through an occupied site!!! Especially when the OP and his wife were sitting there. Jeesh. Even though it caused a bit of aggravation, I am glad your wife spoke up. More people should do the same, then maybe fellow campers will recognize common courtesy does not have to be a "written camp rule". OP, hope the rest of your camping season is better.

+1
I would have avoided the confrontation. Agreed that I don't walk into other's campsites, but what's the real harm if someone does? Sometimes in life you have to pick your battles. For all the OP knows it could have been some psycho with nothing to lose, and he could have come after them with a knife instead of spitting beer on their car. Is it really worth it? I understand that sometimes you have to stand up for yourself, but this was pretty harmless and could have been tragic.
