One reason to care about others washing their hands is that person may later go into a public establishment and get surfaces dirty that others touch. I always wash my hands after using the toilet, or after dumping, but I am certainly not a germophobe.

This idea about using gloves is absolutely ridiculous. There is a particular activity that is done by just about everyone every day of their lives. It involves very close contact with undiluted fecal matter. It results in the accumulation of material in the black tanks on RVs. I wonder how many people use rubber or latex gloves when doing that?

Some of these posts are naive. I was part of this naive group until 2 months ago. The germs that exist in the community now are different than 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 years ago; much different and much more dangerous especially in the last 10 years.

Read about MRSA, especially pay attention to the Community Acquired type of MRSA (CA-MRSA). There is an outbreak of CA-MRSA and may be reaching epidemic proportions. MRSA is a staph infection that is resistant to most antibiotics. It almost killed me 2 months ago; it started with an ingrown hair that I scratched. I now carry with me (at all times) prescription only topical antibiotic (typical over the counter topical antibiotics, like neosporin do not work) and band aids in case I get a scratch or cut.

Something to think about....in a restroom if you wash your hands, you have to work the paper towel dispenser or push the button on the blower if they are not automatic but then you have to get out of the restroom so do you grab the door handle or touch the door or wait till someone else goes thru and rush out behind them. So after touching all these surfaces what good did washing your hands do??? After dumping my tanks I think the best thing to have is keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer in your truck. Since it is mostly achohol it's a good germ killer.

I have not yet heard of one fatality from not wearing gloves when dumping the black tank.

I just wash my hands, and move on with my day.

If they died they couldn't tell you about it.

Hand sanitizer does not kill everything, use it when you have nothing else. Nothing beats scrubbing your hands with soap and water. But you have a point about other things in a public restroom that may be ready to get onto your body. I am now at the point when I use a public bathroom 1 - open the door. 2 - wash my hands (I don't know what is on that door knob and I don't want it on me) 3 - use the toilet 4 - wash my hands 5 - leave the bathroom 6 - hand sanitizer.

I think the next thread will be: "Jerks at the dump station who slow down the process by washing their hands".
I don't have a problem with who washes there hands or not, I do have a problem with the guy who dumps and then sticks his hose over the faucet at the campsite to wash it out, letting the water drain all over the ground.

Where I work, they had to install a handicap setup on the bathroom door because of someone who was in a wheel chair (sadly he is no longer of this earth, may he rest in peace). The button to open the door is right at hip level.
