Ok,now for a really dumb question........I have a 1999 Dodge 3500 cummins dually towing a 1991 wilderness 27G. The trailer is parked for now and I am fairly sure I need to install a brake controller for the trailer brakes.

The truck has tow package and all that but no way to activate the brakes without a controller......am I correct?

Thanks for the help.

If you go with a Prodigy get the cable for your dodge. Then it is simple to install. The electrical is then just plug and play.
I prefer the P3 because of the extra diagnostics and the current reading.

Yes you absolutely need a brake controller. Get a proportional brake controller not a time delay. I loved my prodigy P3. The only difference between p2 and p3 is the p3 has better diagnostics and I think set up a little better for quick use. As stated above her the dodge specific wiring harness and it should install in less than 10 min if your truck is prewired for a brake controller.

I believe the Dodges and Fords all come pre wired (harness connector) for a break controller. My GMC was pre wired but with open ended wires. Just mount it, plug it in and your good to go. The p2 comes with a default setting of 6.0. I just left mine at that and it seems to be working. dont feel the trailer pushing me at all.

Like others have said, go with the Prodigy2. Its very simple to use and also gives a digital reading of how much current is being applied to your TT breaks.

Im in no wau shape or form a mechanic and if I can get this hooked up right...anyone can.

Just got back from my first trip with my 5er, and prodigy P3. OUTSTANDING!
3 levels of boost control, manual trailer brake control and air/hydraulic compatibility make it a cinch.
