I currently have two of the standard rectangular mirrors with a convex auxiliary mirror in the lower outside corner of both mirrors. I am not completely satisfied with my field of vision. What is the best mirror setup?

Sounds like you need a rear view camera. I have one with a 7" monitor to which I added a second camera that is mounted under my right side mirror. It gives me a clear view of everything on the side and to the rear. It should come in real handy when changing lanes and making right turns.

I removed the stick on wide angle mirrors then mounted separate wide angle mirrors below the regular mirrors. The field of vision is greatly improved.

Hard to understand exactly what you have from your description. Most later model E-Series have the single-arm power mirrors but we have the rental-truck-style tripod mirrors and I did this

On a 1985 E-Series, you probably have the "west coast" style mirrors mounted on a hoop-like bracket. Adding a large convex mirror there is very easy.

This is how I mounted the side view camera.

Simple cure.... from the Tiger's driver's seat, . Note that the short little Forester's rear side is still visible in the spot mirror, even tho' the front is well visible thru the window. Costs about $3 at an auto parts store. Look for the ones where the fisheye spot swivels a little in the stick-on base. No extra drag or wind noise with this.
