I have a Dometic awning on our 40FT 5th wheel and would like to change over to a Power Awning. I like the Carefree of Colorado awnings that I have seen. I would imagine the acrylic is better than the vinyl.
Has anyone switched their old awning out to a newer Power Awning? I would like to know how it worked out and if there are any concerns.

Thanks,

Bigdon68

We converted our manual awning to a power awning within the first month.

Our factory awning was a Dometic A&E 8500 manual. Carefree makes Travl'r power arms that will convert either a Carefree or a Dometic manual awning to electric. I elected to keep my Dometic fabric and tube because it matched the window awnings and it was brand new.

The arms were about $600 I believe (PPL). The easiest part was installing the arms. The hardest part was getting power to it (drilling holes in a new rig always makes me shutter). The motor is in the forward arm.

Regardless of what brand you go with, add a remote! I can roll mine up driving away or sometimes I pull up to shore with the boat and put it up when it gets a little breezy.

Mine is prewired for an awning. How difficult is the install?

if you are prewired it's easy, add arms and roller tube and you are done. Easiest to have fabric already on tube and a couple of helpers to slide the fabric through the drip rail.
