I would like to know best/easiest route to Amarillo, Tx. from Canton Tx. Did a request on mapquest and we also looked at map and mapped out a route which is the 2nd route. 1st route takes us from I-20 to Hwy 80 which turns into to I30. Then merge onto I-35E to TX-183W towards TX-114W and merging onto Hwy-287
2nd route I-20W exiting onto Hwy-80 exit on I-635N take I-35E to Denton, Tx, exiting to Hwy 380w to Hwy-287
Will be leaving Canton on a Sunday morning.
Thanks

I would take the 635 route.

avoid downtown Dallas (i-30) at all costs (even on a Sunday morning - that is one of their favorite times to do lane closures and construction)

watch your speed once you get off of 35....several speed traps in the area.

On Sunday I'd take I20 to Ft. Worth then take Loop 820 to US287. That keeps you south of downtown Dallas. If you're through there in the morning it shouldn't be too bad. I635 is bad no matter what time of day.

635 is a ghost town on Sunday mornings.

I-20 around the south side of Dallas to I-35W in Ft Worth, north to US 287 to Amarillo. Easiest and simplest and fewest road changes. Sunday morning should be easy sailing.

I would take TX-19 north to Paris, pick up US-271 north to the Indian Nation Turnpike, then that from Hugo to Henryetta. That gets you to I-40, straight across to Amarillo.

This has been my preferred route from NE Oklahoma to Houston the past several years, running down to Houston every 3-6 months for wife's medical care. 19 goes right through Canton, bypasses the DFW area by at least 60 miles, usually with light traffic (except the short stretch from I-20 to Canton on trading days) and high speed limits most of the way.

From Paris, the only really congested spot on 19 is Canton itself. The rest of the slow or moderately congested spots (Athens, Palestine, Crockett) are all in the other direction. North of Paris, US-271 and the Indian Nation are high speed divided highways with almost zero traffic.

If you want to skim the south side of Dallas, the way to do it is I-20. But going that way, I wouldn't take 35W to get to US-287, I would stay on I-20 to US-180, across to US-271 to pick up US-287 at Wichita Falls. It is a few more miles, but doesn't go through the middle of Fort Worth, and the mess of suburban traffic the first 15-20 miles out from I-35W. But I would go through DFW and travel US-287 if I planned to stop in Wichita Falls to visit family. If my objective was Amarillo, my route would be I-40.

We just drove across Texas the middle of May (like a week or so ago) and I-20 bucked us most of the way. I mean we got off of it and traveled secondary roads because of the damage it was doing to our rig. We got back on it from time to time and regretted it every time. I'd stay off of I20.

The drivers in Ft. Worth are something else. We were warned...we did not believe it until we witnessed it.

The drivers in Dallas are even worse. (We were warned about them by our friends that live in Ft. Worth) Driver came from the far LEFT lane...crossing TWO lanes to cut in front of us....drove on the shoulder (actually this was the tail end of the on-ramp and he cut them off too) to pass 3 cars and then crossed back across all the lanes to the far Left lane. I guess that's how you pass the guy that isn't going fast enough in the "fast" lane. ???

If you drive through downtown Dallas at rush hour (like we did) be prepared to see some reckless driving. Stay safe. Keep your eyes open.

Take 19 out of Canton to Greenville, pick up 69 to Bells and then get 82 west to WFALLS, then 287 to Amarillo.

X2. That is the safest and most sane way to get there.
