I just purchased 2012 Lance 855S My wife daughter and I will be setting out in a couple of weeks for our first trip. I wanted to know if anyone can give me any tips on packing due to the limited space etc. Also any suggestions on needed items that might get overlooked.

Try spending the night in Camp Driveway this weekend. That should give you an idea of your needs over a couple of days. Of course, you'll need a fresh water hose, a sewer hose and plastic screw-in fittings. Might want to carry a donut for the sewer pipe just in case it's required. Enjoy!

Make sure to take a pen and paper to keep notes on what you need for your next trip. I know that's what you are trying to avoid but there will always be something you want to write down so you don't forget it next time out.

Take the owners manual and dealer # in case you have questions.

Other than that make sure you have what you need to prepare and consume your food.

Bedding, clothing, toiletries.

Fill your propane, fill the water unless you'll have access to it where you are going. Extra fuses and bulbs might come in handy.

Flashlight and extra batteries in case you have electrical issues at night.

If you have an oven like mine you'll need matches or a lighter to get the pilot light going (the long extended shaft lighters work best), I didn't know that on my first RV about 10 years ago.

I'd bring some simple tools, even though it's new you may find a screw that needs tightened or a pipe that is leaking etc.

Congrats on your camper, you'll enjoy your time with it.

We don't have a truck camper but my dad used to have one and 5 of us went on trips! We full time in a 33' class A, so we have to be aware of what we take with us. Some hints: Plan meals and only take what you need in small sealed containers. We cook pasta at home and put in plastic bag then just add sauce and instant meal. You can always pick up what you forget. We use paper plates and bowls, paper cups, and plastic utensils because they are lightweight and don't require washing dishes. We only have 2 skillets and 2 pots (large and small). Use dry drink mix or tea rather than carry heavy drinks. Dry food instead of canned if possible (less space and weight). Put cereal and crackers in sealed containers. The first thing we forgot was a can opener. Thin thermal blankets take up less space than thick heavy quilts. Thinner towels dry faster (got ours at the dollar store). You didn't say how long you'll be gone, but if more than a week, just take enough clothes for one week and find a laundry. Don't forget camera, sunscreen, chairs, stuff for smores!! You will learn what you need and what you don't. Have a place for everything and keep in in that place. Keep things stowed. Enjoy your trip and keep us posted!

Keeping notes is a good idea. We keep a sticky note pad handy to help remember what we'll need for the next trip. What has helped us the most is the "haven't needed it in two trips - it goes" rule. Doesn't apply to seasonal items or items like tools but, for example, if I don't use the folding hammock on two trips in a row, it doesn't travel with us on the next.

Spare keys: you carry one set, your wife has the other.
Necessary medications.

More general hints:

Use baskets or boxes inside cupboards and fridge so contents don't get a running start to knock the door open. Don't ask me how I know this.

Pack heavier items closer to the floor, lighter items up top.

Have a great time!

Extra TP - there are not as many squares on a roll of RV TP as household TP.

Duct tape, Zip-ties and beer.

I agree with the driveway camping. No better way to decide what you need/want and what you don't.
