Just traded my 2007 Dodge 2500 6.7L for a 2011 3500 DRW 6.7L. Did a test pull tonight for about 40 miles. Pulled into about a 35 - 40 mph head wind. Wow what a difference two tires make in the wind. Over all it handled it quite nicely.
If this question has already been asked sorry in advance, didn't find anything in my search.
The question I have is the engine temp is running about 198 - 206 empty, pulling is was running 204 - 212. Is that about normal that everyone is seeing on the 2011 models? Or have you had the thermostat changed out to 180 and if so are you seeing about 200 degress when pulling? I would be interested in know what the conditions were. For example flat in 100 degree weather or pulling in the mountions.
I had it into the dealer for some other things and to check the engine temp before the test pull. They indicated that is the plan by design because factory is putting a 195 degree thermostat in the 2011 and 205 degree in the 2012.
Sorry got long winded just like the Kansas wind today. :-)

Don't change the thermostat. You will likely see more regen action with a cooler T-stat.

Thanks for that! Some people tell me its all in my mind
Congrats on the new truck. Can't help you with the 6.7 temps but my little old 5.9 runs about the same depending on ambient temperatures, terrain, wind and the skinny pedal.
There is the "Baker Grade" in the S Cali desert that will keep my temperature well into the 215 range for a half hour. I use to be concerned but after many pulls it seems normal.
Good Luck

Mine is a 2010 6.7L 4X4 2500 bought at Briggs also and your temps are just right. Will climb a bit in the mountains, not to worry.

Speaking of . . . I don't think I've ever seen mine go into regen mode in the 13k I have on it. What's up with that ???

Unless you have a Exhaust Temperature gauge, you will never know when it is in regeneration.
As far as the engine temperature, I have seen 220* on a had pull on steep grades. A/C on, 100*+ temps outside, all is good. These newer trucks have amazing cooling systems!
Don't change the thermostat. You will creating a whole bunch of problems with the emission systems, causing engine codes, poor performance, bad fuel economy, and endless trips to the dealer with codes that won't be covered under warranty when they discover the thermostat was changed to one outside of the specifications on the manufacturer.

There is or so I'm been told a change in the sound engine when it goes into regen and you will know when it happens.
Form what Cummins told me the engine will only regen when needed, if you run it a little hard on the highway, towing, or pulling grades even empty the engine will not regen very often, if at all. This came from a QC engineer at Cummins so take it for what it's worth.
As far as the t-stat stay with the 195*

An Edge Insight can tell you when a regen is in progress. Note the Edge Insight IS NOT a tuner/power adder, just a monitor.
