How much to you really think they are going to expand?

Guessing you don't know much about the characteristics of wet wood.

Please enlighten me oh guru of wood.

Even if that wood got wet and swelled up an additional 1/2 inch....which it would never do...what harm would an extra 1/2 inch do?

It would be lucky if it gained 1/8 or 3/16 inch. But I doubt a chunk of wood under compression would swell up much anyway.

Lets say it DOUBLED in size, again it would never do, but so what. What does it do?

Out of all that stuff, you are most concerned about the wood shims swelling up when they get wet?

Doh! Now why didn't I think of using the wood shims? Only difference, I think I would have used hard maple with a couple coats marine varnish. May add them in the near future in addition to the airbags, not for the t/c but other hauling I have got coming up.
