The white hoses are so darned inexpensive that we always have 100ft onhand (2-25ft lengths and 1 - 50ft length) and replace them each spring......

Why do you replace them every year?

Well dont throw them away. Cut them up and stick them inside a copper pipe for a colorful campfire!!

That's the most honest answer I've ever seen. Thank you.

The problem with a garden hose (as has been said) is what the hose has been made from - and the fittings and the hose itself contain lead. It has nothing to do with taste. I have seen hoses sold now that carry labels that state that they contain lead. So if you wish to take your chances - go ahead. Lead poisoning is gradual.

We drink from our fresh water tanks and fill them with a white, drinking water safe hose. Twenty five feet of white hose is less than $10. When at home I do not put a filter on the hose, but at a campground I do.

Just make sure to get the "good" white hoses. I bought a cheap one, and it would get an insane number of kinks in it, so it hit the garbage can for a better made one from Amazon.

Other than that, I've filled up my tank from a garden hose that has been running a sprinkler for a couple hours earlier, so if there is any bad stuff, it is likely extremely well diluted.

Always a clean drinking water quality fresh water hose. Hose on the reel is 200 ft long and after running water through it for what seems eternity it still taste like hose. We have well water with whole house filters and chlorination dechlorination but I have still seen green stuff in a 1 inch water hose that was advertised as a fire hose. It was orange in color.
So I'm donating quite a few fresh water hoses and starting with new ones. I hope to find ones I saw somewhere with silver compounds in the lining.

White hoses were originally design with more reinforcing in them so they wouldn't blow out from being constantly under pressure when hooked up. Back in the day the only difference in the hoses was just that, more reinforcing. The rubber/vinyl or whatever was the same for both garden and potable. They made them white for eye appeal. Mine is orange. Green, black and apparently blue are also available. For me it is garden hose and tap water. Bottled water is just a bacterial culture according to the chemists. Good marketing job by the bottled water companies. As for the amount of lead in a hose.....you could never drink enough water in your life time for it to show up in your body.

Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.
