We are getting ready to head from Seattle, Washington to Illinois. Knowing that we have to cross the Rockies somewhere along the way, which route is easiest to travel - I80 or I90?

From Seattle....I'd just jump on I90. Piece of cake going east.

90 has less truck traffic.

We have gone both routes in our Class C. No problems either way, although as Arch said, maybe less traffic on 90
Alaska is next! Still trying to fit the pontoons to the RV so We can get to Hawaii!

I also favor I 90. Very scenic and lots of neat places to visit.

Highway 2 along the border is also fun and scenic. Not 4 lane but still a nice road.

Highway 2 is fine but get off it before leaving Montana. The oil boom in N.D. and eastern Montana means that there are NO openings in campgrounds or RV parks due to so many oil workers. Last year, knowing nothing about the boom, we spent the night at Camp Walmart in Williston but Walmart doesn't allow that any more because so many workers were living in the parking lot.

I make the trip from Portland to Illinois on average once per year. It's a nice drive from Idaho on.
If you take I-90, you will pass by the "World Famous" Wall Drug and will be within an hour of Mt. Rushmore and right near The Badlands. It's a nice trip this time of year, but the humidity can get bad at times.

I took that route once, as well as US-12.
I ended up having to go 25 MPH most of the way. I have never seen so many deer in the same day in my life. I thought I was in a Disney movie!
