As I said before. As a firefighter and former fire Chief every RV fire I have been on started with the refrigerator. All these RV fires I have been on the RV had been sitting so it was not an issue with hot brakes etc. Someone needs to start holding these component manufacturers liable for this******they put out that endanger peoples, and families lives and stop worrying about how many $$$$ they can put in their pockets. Cracked frames also ring a bell.

Once again I am sorry for your loss. Our pets ARE family and would be devastated if we lost one no matter how it happened

Ranger Smith, given your experience as a firefighter, where have you seen these fires tend to start? Gas system, electrical system, or a combination? In your opinion, how much of a factor do you think the wind played in =starting= the fire? If you think wind =was= a factor, do you think parking with the reefer vent downwind or even at an angle to the wind would have had any effect?

One evening I drove about 25 miles on very rough washboard roads on the Hopi Reservation in Arizona. Stopped at a truck stop in Winslow to dump tanks. Smelleld propane. Opened the trailer and was almost overwhelmed by the odor. Found that the propane connection from one of the tanks had worked loose and was leaking propane.
Had I parked and gone into the restaurant it is very likely the fumes would have been ignited by the refrigerator and my unit would have been lost.

Very sorry for your loss of your fur kids and your possessions.

That video is very tough to watch

This only renews my interest in getting one of the automatic Halon extinguisher system's for my refer cooling compartment.
With 2 dogs in the RV alone at times it cause my wife and I concern to see a fire like this.

I am sorry for your loss

Please help me understand how good Sam could have helped or how we can help

You stated that we were no help. Please explain because I will not tolerate anything of the sorts if we were rude or unsympathetic

I'll await your reply

Thank you for furnishing that report. More details than before, and even more heartbreak.

Kudos Cabela's! Well done! I refer here to details in the above linked report which said Cabela's got a hotel room for these folks and their beloved dog.

Well done!

Interesting there is reference in the news report to the fire department indicating the fire possibily originated near the fridge area.

I am sorry for your loss.
I had a similar thing happen to me that could have resulted in a loss of my camper.
I decided to leave the gas turned on and refer running while traveling. Just as we stopped as we reached our camping spot, our friends who were already there noticed that there was a flame coming from the outside of our refer. It actually had started just as we stopped. With our friends quick notice and fast action, we had no actual damage.
We do not travel with our refer running anymore.
