Hi all, been a member here for awhile but just bought a class B after going the route of 5th wheel, large class A and truck and camper. I just purchased an American Cruiser, 19'. picking it up on Sun. and am sure I am going to love it.

How common is it for a class B to not have a hot water heater and what is the general opinion of the American Cruiser brand.

Thank you in advance,

Bob

We know many B owners and all have water heaters with the exception of one couple who chose not to have water in their B. To me the biggest advantage to a water heater is being able to take hot showers aand wash dishes. If that is not a concern, you could always heat water for quick wash/ups and doing dishes.

Don't know any one with an American Cruiser but they have been a topic on the forum recently. Do a search to see comments.

Enjoy the B life.

Bob, congrats on coming to the B world. Like others, my thoughts were "why no H/W". Is this a new buy or resale. I would think no matter which it is, it would have the space reserved for a tank. FWIW, I was just reading about C/W having a set up for the drain plug that has a heater core built in...in case you have go that route. Keep us posted. We did the move down, mostly due to health, and it has been great. I can lay around and watch television, turn the genny on and make a pot of coffee - while the wife shops her heart out...priceless!! Safe travels.

We purchased an American Cruiser Class B and it has been, hands down' the best coach I have ever experienced. Previous rvs were a 40" Gulfstream Tourmaster pulling a toad and a 38' fifth wheel. NOW, for the first time, we can enjoy any interesting roadside attraction, travel to any city, shop at any store or grocery because we no longer are hobbled by space limitations nd can drive and park anyplace that you can take a car inluding a metered spot on a city street. Off to the beach, museums, festivals without a thought. No more campgrounds only but if in a campground, disconnect electric and drive off to sightsee locally...no more toad issues. The rear entry floor plan imho has it all over the space limiting side entry and now you can enjoy a true dinette with comfortable seating and table. A full size couch and an enclosed spacious head with shower and sink, 4cuft ref/freezer, microwave and galley with sink makes this interior design a home run.

From your post are you saying the B you purchased does not have a hot water heater or you are not sure if it has a hot water heater????
All Pleasure-way B's I have seen have had a hot water heater. Regards Dick

IIRC some of them came with no water systems, and heater is optional.

There should be sufficient room to fit one if you really want one.

Very similar to the Roadtreks of the same vintage.

American Cruiser went out of business a while back, I think.

We have an American Cruiser as well. Look under the cushion next to the refrig. That is where ours is. Should be a grill outside at this point as well. The off/on switch is near the sink. Propane only from the factory. We love ours as do most A/C owners. Company is out of business as of about 2002. Send me a PM and I will be happy to tell you some areas to be careful of.

Thanks for all the responses. Our American Cruiser has a water system but no hot water heater.

We just completed a 3400 mile trip with our B and we just love it. After having all the larger units this is just a hoot, park anywhere, go anywhere without worrying about size restrictions. It took a little getting used to the smaller space, but to me that was a bonus. Proved to my DW we didn't need a 38' unit to get all her/our stuff in.

Already looking forward to our next trip.

After 7 years we still find we take too much stuff especially clothes. It is a never ending battle to cut down.

We use our hot water sparingly. We have the 6 gallon propane Suburban tank. It takes about 15 minutes to heat up and then we do dishes or wash hair. Then turn it off. for as much as we use you could almost get by just heating up a pot of water.

I drained the WH in our rig years ago and have never filled it again. That's almost 50lb of weight that we don't need. We find we can heat water for dish's on the stove quickly, we rarely use the wet shower and I never have to worry about draining the heater tank. There is always enough hot water left in the kettle for hand washing etc. Since then I have talked to quite a few other B owners who have done the same thing.
