We are headed there next winter and I would like to know if the waters immediately adjacent to the park are good for snorkeling and/or fishing.

Thanks!

The water quality vaires with winds and water temperature. The park is surrounded by a cut channel so that boats can navigate. If you get out of the cut...it's very shallow. I'll say...YES you can snorkel (make sure to display a dive flag) but if you are coming all the way down to the keys...and you enjoy snorkeling...please do yourself a favor and look into booking a snorkel tour of Looe Key. Watch visibility conditions...but if the vis is good...it's not to be missed!!! There are charters out of Bahia Honda S.P. and other operators along the Keys Highway. It's an offshore marine park. It has a very nice grouping of mature coral reef with lots of sealife to look at.

Wonderful camping spot, I fished from my dock, did not catch any keepers but it was fun feeding the pelican and herons the small ones I caught. They stood right on the dock with me and encourged me.

We stayed there two weeks ago. A couple of days the water was calm and clear and a couple of days it was extremely windy so the answer probably depends in what time of year and the expected weather conditions.

My girl friend went snorkeling there once. Got right out. There was a ton of jelly fish. Probably a not so common event.

Yep, actually drove to all of these places---in the last eight years. Missed Rhode Island and New Jersey.

It's not the typical "key" dive. It's more reeds and soft bottom than you'd expect. It's better diving elsewhere, but that doesn't mean you can't dive. The park itself is always in our top three (along with Colter Bay, and Blackwell Island). Enjoy!

Here is the view from the top of our rig. You can clearly see where the deep and shallow water is. Typically the shallow water is almost to shallow to snorkel in.
