This is my BIGGEST complaint about drivers, they DON"T know how to merge into traffic. Years ago, I had a friend that was a retired California Hiway Patrolman, and he told me the key word in the Ca. vehicle code was the merging traffic was to adjust their speed so as to "BLEND" into traffic. Just the other night I looked it up about merging and I didn't see the word Blend, but it did say that merging traffic was to adjust there speed, and to look over their shoulder so as to safely merge into traffic. Not like some do, put on the turn signal and go for it. Last year coming back from the Air Races in Reno, near Roseville CA, the traffic was very heavy and a gal with a couple of young kids onboard didn't look, and just tried to drive into the traffic.......I had no where to go, slowed down, but it just wasn't working out, and I had no choice but to hit the air horn.........a few minutes later she went by me and was honking and giving me the digital salute......I thought, wow, what a good example for the kids. She was not only a lousey driver, but obviously a lousey example for the kids too.

I try to accommodate cars and trucks as much as possible. But some times the idiot in the car is oblivious to the situation. Then I let him hear the air horns until he decides to accelerate or brake.
I give every accommodation and always change lanes if I can for merging traffic and that works well, but there are a few idiots out there that are hard to deal with and the horns are the only way to wake them up.

Which helps as a School Bus Driver
I take a different approach. He is entering. You are already on. You have the right of way. In these situations I run the idiot right in to the shoulder, and leave them behind. Just be sure they see you before trying this. This activity always is very stressful for my wife if she's riding up front.....
x2 and the law is on your side.
Are you sure about that. Your actions could be construed as reckless and aggressive driving. Granted, the idiot improperly merging is mentally deficient but that doesn't excuse your actions. I don't blame your wife for being stressed. If I knew a driver engaged in actions like yours, I would rather walk.
Now put the shoe on the other foot, or your RV on the onramp and your the one murging. You floor it, but, dang the engineers made the ramp too short. Now you have to murge while you haven't quite made it up to speed. Do you wet your pants and hope someome lets you in, hit the brakes, cuss, make for the gravel? How does is feel to be the one in the situation now? For one I do cuss a lot, to whoever is with me, (DW) and I hope that someone will let me it. So far it's worked and I think keeping an eye out for murging vehicles is just smart. So what if I have to slow down a little let them on. Oh well, LLAP and have a nice day.

If they try to match the speed and merge in a responsible way, I try and make room for them. If they are busy texting and to busy to drive, then I will wait till they realize they are out of lane and try to yank the wheel left and then I will honk at them and watch them yank the wheel right. Other words, you drive defensively, and I will too. You drive with your head up your a__ and I will help you see how dark it is up there....
Are you saying that you have actually seen people "texting" when merging onto an interstate?
I've seen people texting in just about every situation, including merging in traffic. Frightening, isn't it?
Maybe just me.
I don't want to be involved in anything that puts dents in anything I own.
