WOW, the count is in. 135 structures including resorts have been destroyed and over 20,000 acres of mostly pristine beautiful hardwood trees. The pictures are sickening as we have been thru those woods several times and know what it used to look like. Most of the fire is now under control but there are many hot spots left that can restart it.

That is sad to hear. We have made it there a few times on snowmobiles. That place is in the middle of nowhere and was a neat place to visit.

All of the Duck Lake Fire burned areas are north of M-123 and up to the Lake Superior shoreline and can't be seen from the M-123 highway. Tahquamenon Falls area and the state park CG's are south of M-123 and were spared from the fire and have been re-opened. Deer Park, Deer Park Road (H-37), and Muskallonge State Park/CG areas on Lake Superior are several miles west of the burned area and were untouched. The northern section of County Rd 500 going to Lake Superior and Little Lake Harbor is the eastern side of the fire and has lots of burned out areas visible. The quite popular Pike Lake CG's all have burned and of course are closed as were the lodges, businesses, cabins, homes, etc, 135 of them. Some others in the fire area such as the popular Two Hearted River area/CG's also succumbed or were badly damaged.

By next summer the area will be "greening up". Many years ago we visited Yellowstone park several years after the big fire. New pines were growing quite nicely. You could only tell that a fire went through by the standing burnt black trees.

Camped at Indian Valley a few times. im only about 20 minutes away. brother in law had a seasonal their for a few years.
Need to check out Pentwater or Ludington State Park. Nice places right on the big lake. Lots of places you can go for day trips. My fav is Sleeping Bear Dunes.

I also did some more reading, the Pike Lake Resort, which consisted of the pike lake general store and some cabins, well off the grid, is no more.
Last time I was up there we visited the owner (not the resort but the store and his house) he, like me, is a Ham Radio operator and I was chatting with him on 2 meters from time to time from the falls state park.
But the resort is ashes now.
