Yesterday I was travelling up I-5 from Northern Ca into Oregon. I checked Flying J's website and saw Diesel in Medord was $3.87 compare to around $4.15 in Ca. I had plenty to get to Medford so thought I'd fill up there. Well, the $3.87 applies if you have some kind of Oregon permit? not sure what that is, I assume it's for commercial vehicles. I had a loyality card from Flying J and it turns out with my discount I ended up paying $4.21. Learn something new everyday.....seems like I always end up paying for my education though.

Heavy commercial trucks registered in Oregon I believe pay fees based on weight and mileage instead of paying a per gallon diesel fuel tax. However, out of state truckers pay the tax which is what happened to you.

You may have seen "PUC", which means Public Utility Commission, which is for truckers, which you (and I) are not.

Yes, PUC rate is the "cheap" rate, paid by truckers--temporarily, as the road tax is then billed/paid quarterly by the trucking company. In the long run, playing field is even, just paid in different format.

Sad to say, time to sell to a good home.

Maybe in some areas, but not so in Central Valley area of California. Flying J consistently has the lowest price, especially after deducting the loyalty discount.

Oregon isn't the only place this happens. We saw it in Illinois too.
