DW and I are going to be in Portland, Oregon sometime in September. Our plan is to stay 4 or 5 days for geocaching. I am looking for recommendations on where to stay. I have found two RV parks that sound promising, Columbia River RV Park, and Crown RV Park in Corbett. What we are looking for a save place that does not cost a lot. We also want close to Portland so we don't have to spend a lot of time driving to start geocaching. Any help will be appreciated.

This one about 20 minutes south of Portland looks very nice. I've driven past, though not through it. It's very conveniently located near park-and-ride lots. (Portland has a pretty good transit system and it's a real easy way to get around town).

We stayed at Columbia River and liked it. It's inexpensive (esp. the weekly rate), near the airport, convenient location yet still has some nice walking area around it (it's close to the river and if you have a pooch you can take him/her for a walk there). I wouldn't call it a fabulous park, but it's in a good location and run by really nice folks. We stay here anytime we need to fly out of Portland or just want to be close to the city.

I have pics of the park & sites HERE

Another great place to stay if you can deal with not having a sewer hookup is Clackamette RV Park in Oregon City right off I205 at the mouth of the Clackamas river with the Willamette river Park Web Site

X2. Stayed there last year. Full hookup sites are/were then $24/night. Go to the Oregon State Parks web site and see availibility. Some sites can be reserved so if you find one you like make sure its available for your stay. Also Champoeg is one of the few campgrounds the Google Earth car drove through so you can look at most of the sites.

We stayed at PR and while it is a nice setting and well kept park, they are rule crazy. You must do this you can't do that, keep this here, don't use a macerator it'll ruin the septic system and on and on. But if you like quiet and seasonals go for it.

I forgot about Clackamette- that IS a nice spot, not expensive, and some of the sites are riverfront.
And it's a straight 20 minute drive to downtown Portland (except during rush hour, of course).

Pheasant ridge was a very nice park and close in. Champoeg state park was a farther out. a 15-20 min drive. I really likes it out there. It's quiet and being a state park the sites are farther apart. Like all state parks in Oregon, they are well tended and nice.

Ditto on Clackamette, we stay there when we come down to PDX. And Flying Pie Pizza north on McLoughlan passes the "Chicago Test."
