Got to agree with everyone else. Live less than two hours from Dodge and it isn't anything special. Old Fort Dodge and the Old Soldiers Home is special though. Makes a person appreciate the sacrifices of others. Got to agree with Bent's Fort.

None of the original Dodge City exists. It's all replica rebuilt. If you're nearby, I'd go check it out anyway. Last time I was there I took their tour of the stockyards. Informative. Best part of the trip. Tombstone, on the other hand, is pretty authentic. Some building have been burned down, but much of it still exists. Skip the recreation of the gunfight at the OK Corral. Watch the movies Tombstone
and Wyatt Earp for authentic showings.

The fastest $50 I ever lost was in Dodge City's new casino.

It's okay, but don't camp downwind from any feedlots.

The Salt mine in Hutchinson, KS and the Mennonite cafe in Yoder, KS is definitely worth stopping. Dodge City is ok if you've never seen it.

Don't forget the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson if you're there. One of the largest space artifact museums in the USA. Went there every year on field trips in school. Loved it.

I would go if I had the chance. Being born and raised in Satanta, KS, I was too young at the time to remember much and I would like to see it again.

I went out of my way to go through Doge City just because I had never been there. Well they didn’t get the memo on how to keep and market their old west heritage. They have torn down and rebuilt the old front street. They have a new front street that is kind of sort of like it use to be and they want to charge you to see it.
The old wagon tracks west of town, I think it was the Santa fey trail are worth stopping to see. You will better appreciate the hardships and trials of these early RV travelers.
