This topic comes up pretty often and so far I don't know of anyone who has switched sides. With my 24' C I am still in the no toad category. My wife really likes the base camp / day trip model of camping though so this may change. So far, we treat our C just like a B. We take it everywhere we possibly can. Haven't had to rent a car yet. I have no problem unhooking utilities but I find myself hesitating to put the awning out. It only takes an extra couple minutes but is a pain.

Even at 32' I wouldn't want a toad unless I was full timing. For vacations I would rather be towing a boat or other toys.

I routinely (several times a month, but not daily) drive a 45' bus and while I only rarely have to park on the street, taking it into major urban areas happen every time I get behind the wheel. But no, I haven't driven a rig of that size in New Orleans. When I was there, the public transit worked very well for DW and I.

I don't argue the convenience of having a toad to use. In fact, the DW is still trying to sway me. My point is that for me the convenience is not worth the hassle of towing it around all the time. I will either plan better, or rent, or borrow, or use public transit, or pedal. If I was full-timing or out for more than a week or two at a time my viewpoint may change. To the OP: Try it both ways and discover what works for you.

Back in the day my family and I traveled in a 24' A. Nobody towed in those days. I have to hand it to my father (the driver), we went everywhere except Bar Harbor. All over the west (Ah, the smell of hot brakes in the morning!) Thinking back, I can't believe we went the places we did. Only ever took out one side vent on a rock formation on Needles Highway. RVing myself now, I can't believe he went through that whole unhooking process every morning.

There are two of us so when we need to rent a car, we usually just have the driver drop one off at the local airport. (NOT SAN ANTONIO BTW)and meet back at the campground. Sometimes you can get a better deal and if your in a smaller town like Palm Springs or Lawton, OK the last two times we did it, it worked out really well. Their airports are so in and out easy.
My friend has a toadless blog you might like.

I think we are confusing apples and oranges here. IMHO, if you are driving a B van or a Class C 24 ft or less, you basically are driving a toad. When I was considering getting a B van I thought about towing a toad, a small 4x4 or whatever to take off the road.
