I have no problem sleeping during the day at camp grounds. Our TT has limo tint on all the windows along with blinds and our bedroom has wooden doors so when closed up it is like night time in there. The fan is a good idea for outside noise. Another suggestion would be to pick a TT with ducted A/C so the bedroom will stay cool with the door closed.

My dad was an over the road driver for 30 plus years and can sleep anywhere! After all, he's used to sleeping in the sleeper while his partner was driving down the road at 70 MPH! That said, I would consider a camper with the arctic package (more insulation means more sound reduction), double pane windows, and room darkening shades (not blinds).

Great ideas everyone, thanks! It sounds totally doable. With a little homework and checking out the CG's for the best sites, it could really work.

I worked shifts all my working life, power system operator/dispatcher, and wore foam ear plugs and sometimes a black out sleep mask over my eyes. My body got so accustomed to the ear plugs that when I put them in, my body said sleep time. Even now being retired and maybe not having a good nights sleep I will put plugs in and then will be down for the count right now.

I worked the night shift for many years, and most who do can sleep just about anywhere and anytime. Since summer is coming he will probably run the A/C so that will keep out unwanted noise. That along with some dark shades and my guess is he'll be fine.

Retired, we sometimes sleep until noon. We stay up late reading or watching movies on TV, or we're on the RV laptop PC. Only at one CG were consistently awoken by noise... that's Poole Knobs when the man with the leaf blower comes by just after 7 AM. But that's only once a week so we can live with it. We only camp there a few times over the summer.
Some CGs are very noisy with barking dogs and kids running wild, but most are not. If the add says "family campground" be cautious as it may be full of crying babies and screaming kids.

If his commute is only 30-40 minutes and there are campgrounds closer to his work why not have him go home to sleep? He could join you for his time off before or after work and for his three days off. This way you don't have to worry about disturbing him.

To get real sleep during the day family members have to use the campground bathroom and not have to keep going in to use the toilet.
A small dorm refrigerator could hold cold drinks and snacks.
Ear plugs would help Dad.
Emergency supply of clothes should be kept in the car along with games, books, etc.

My DD's naptime (early afternoon) is usually one of our most peaceful times at the campsite. Also, we are notorious for sleeping in until 9-10. I don't really notice any noise that would wake us. As others have said, for some reason, it seems the nights get noisy. The other thing to think about would be, what will you do on rainy days? If you don't have a TT yet, I would advise getting one with actual wood doors separating the master bedroom. This will allow you to get in and out of the TT better for snacks, lunch, bathroom etc and not disturb your DH as much.
