I've purchased 2 Kyocera KC80 panels for my sons 5er. 80W, Voc=21.5V, Vmp=16.9V, Imp=4.73A For a CC I'm considering the Morningstar SS10L which passes the Morningstar string calculator test. I need to purchase this and the wire before I get a good and current look at the wiring routing.
For wiring I'm planning on using 10ga panel wires. For parallel panel wiring two options exist.
1. Wire one panel to the next - about 10' to allow for tilting and then from there to the controller.
2. Wire both panels to a combiner box. Possibly the combiner box could be located on the ceiling in a cabinet.
The panels will be located on the very front of the 5er which has a slight downward slope. My son is concerned about air flow under the panels and is considering placing a air damn in from of the panels.
There are no plans to expand this system. Suggestions, etc welcome.
If you can fit two #10 wire in the existing connector that is what I would do. If you want them equal length then connect the main wire + to one panel and - to the other panel. My preference is always fewer connections.
You can also get step-down heat shrink crimp butt connectors that are waterproof.
I would try to avoid the combiner box unless you have three or more in parallel with needed fuses larger wire etc.
