Every year we go to one of our favorite places to fish for large bluegill & largemouth bass about 3 hours from home. It's called Pelican Lake & is in the Uintah Basin in Utah, kind of out in the middle of nowhere. There is an area on the south of the lake that the BLM has as a free camp area, but we found that area noisy around the boat ramp & so avoid the area. It's also the only area with pit toilets. We have always stayed on the other side of the lake from there in an area by ourselves. This year non of the rest of the family was able to go, so DW & I took our 5 year old grandson with us thinking it would be a good chance to spend some time with us & get in some good fishing. We knew going in that the weather was going to be iffy at best. High winds were predicted for 3 of the 4 days with chance of rain & cooling on Sunday. Anyway off we went on Thursday night. We did get in about 45 minutes of fishing from our kickboats on Friday before being blown off the lake. Grandson caught the only fish. So for the rest of the day we rode out the high winds buffeting the trailer & hoping that the wind wouldn't destroy the Roo. It held up well.
We had told the grandson that we have to be careful with water useage as it is strictly boondock camping. He did well with the handwashing, but we came to find out that he must of had a fascination with the foot pedal on the toilet. What should have been easy to do with our black tank for 4 days for 3 people turned into our early trip home. Come Saturday afternoon I checked the guages to see how we were doing. Battery good, fresh good, gray 1/3 good, black FULL? Couldn't be, we had never come close to filling the black tank before, so I looked down the hole & sure enough it was almost full. So after riding out the wind for 2 days & looking at more & the fact that a bored 5 year old can get into mischief like flushing the toilet, as well as playing with the wifes contact lenses & breaking one of them we decided that we could have as much fun at home & came home early. Hope that the next time will be better. There will be other times for camping this year.
Just as a note normally we would have heard the pump running, but with the wind blowing & bunkends flapping in the wind it made it hard to hear the pump going on & off.

Here's a tip that helped me when boondocking without hookups.

Most bathroom sinks are connected to the black tank.

Just by switching washing my hands and brushing my teeth in the "kitchen" sink instead of the bathroom sink extended my stay before having to dump by a whole week!

And also teach your family not to leave the water running while brushing. A common habit we all do at home that is a deal breaker in an RV.

Filling the blackwater tank is simple. Just keep using the toilet until it overflows...

Mine neither and I asked when I bought the RV. If it had been then I would not have bought it.

Have you tried it? I was told by the dealership that BOTH of my sinks dumped into the gray too. Found out later they don't, the bathroom sink dumps into the black.

All you have to do is test them on empty tanks by opening the valves and running the water. I've met a lot of campers on the road that found out later just like I did why their black tanks fill up so fast. Just saying.

I was also told my tanks where heated, I wouldn't have bought the unit either if they were not heated.......I was to find out later they consider heated tanks blowing half my bedroom air duct into the bay.

Rockhill --

What hybrid to you have again?

Would be severe mis-plumbing for a sink to dump into the toilet tank.

ALL of my sinks and shower drain into the grey tank. As did the last one.
I wouldn't have bought either of them had they been they way. Very few are like that.
