From "02" to "03" GM changed the wiring harness for the controller. When I got my Prodigy it did not work correctly. Thats when I found out. Not sure but I think they took one of the wires from the controller and an bypassed the plug in and went direct to the truck harness. Could you have the same problem?

If your running a diesel then you will not have this issue! I spoke with a GM dealer today and it IS a problem on some trucks and the problem is with the brake controller. He suggested that I try one that don't have the "inertia" controller.

I use a Prodigy on my truck (w/ Allison, see sig.) and have no jerking when the transmission downshifts during deceleration.
I know the engine braking downshifts, especially in Tow Haul mode, that you are talking about. No problems with a Prodigy.

Get a MaxBrake Controller! Smooth seamless controller. Easy setup and no controller adjustment on the fly to make or forget while driving.

If your Allison is "violently" downshifting a large repair bill is in your future....

14,400 fifthwheel towed by 06 2500 hd 4x4 duramax/Allison. Trailer brake control by MaxBrake delivered via 10 gauge wiring to 7K brake assemblies with "fitted" brake shoes. Yes she stops pretty good for electric brakes.

What type did he suggest? I do hope it wasn't one of the useless time based controlers

I have only owned two Allison/Duramax combos with the seperate controller but I can tell you that the "downshift" has been my best friend on both and hadn't affected the Tekonsha brake controller on the previous trucks. But now my third has the integrated controller, time to upgrade?!

X's 4 on the Max Brake. We've been using ours for about 3-1/2 years and it's the greatest thing since chicklets!!! Smooth braking and we haven't adjusted our gain in all that time. We have ours set for just ab out 50/50 on the truck and 5th wheel. Diana

Had an '06, diesel and Allison with a Prodigy controller. Excellent in every regards. Very easy to set up and use. The downshift did not cause any issues with porpoising or brake lock up.

Good luck, Mike

My first controler was time based, about wrecked the truck at the first light. Sence then I have 2 prodigys, one in the 2500 one in the dually, both are diesel / allison. Towed a TT cross country in the 2500, drag the TH over the grapevine several times in the 3500. Closest to a downshifting problem I have had is some idiot changing lanes in front of me and slamming on his brakes.

I just came back from my first trip with my 5er using a Prodigy P3. Was great, but you have to set the "pre-load" if you will. This is the starting point of the braking signal. I had to adjust mine up from the pre-programmed level. Also, depending on trailer-to-TV weight ratio on what boost setting you should use. My ratio shows that I should start in Boost 2. I don't have a diesel, or Tow/Haul. I have a Banks Trans-Command box on my trans. My Dad had a P2 on his old P/S F350 worked great for him.
