After staying at Myrtle Beach State park the last couple of years I will say there are trade offs. The first is Pirateland is bigger with many more people, but you also get more amenities. Honestly I would prefer a 10pm start for quite time, but for a large park we had a good time.

I had a corn hole set and bikes out all weekend and nothing was bothered. I do try to park my truck sideways in front of my camp sites because I like having a little more privacy at a large park.

it wasn't too many people in one space. that was personal among people known to each other.

it was not strangers fighting over anything in the cg or anything like that.

BUT I sure agree that anything can happen at any time but just because people are jammed in like cows to a slaughter at a cg, it is not a life threatening sitaution ready to blow at any time.

while can happen, I don't think it is forefront.

Actually it wasn't. They were from the same area, But according to my source in that area. They didn't know each other. The incident stemmed from the drunken Golf cart driver, harassing a young girl who would not ride with him, and the young man that was killed, Stepped in to help her, and was killed for his good work.

Another FYI. Niether family was camping. The crime actually happened in the rental house area of the park. A part of the park that campers would usually never see.

My situation was almost identical to anaro's. Had anyone been parked at the perm site in front of me, I would not have been able to get my TT in place. There was a tree on my awning side and the street was very narrow. You live and learn with cg's as far as knowing where to be and not to be. The online maps are only so good. Ocean Lakes was a much nicer place, but the most crowded cg I've ever seen.

Just got back from Lakewood for Mem Day weekend. Sites are large and the carts are off the strip by 11 PM. We did not have any trouble with any carts up until 11 at all. Everyone there was very kind and helpful(except for the man at the kayaks who was just doing his job but wasn't doing it in a pleasant manner).Pirateland is our 2nd favorite and we switch from time to time. We just like LW's amenities being closer to the ocean than at PL. OL is off my list after staying there once and you couldn't find a place to park your rear on the beach there. last weekend there were cars 3 lines wide across 17 trying to get in there from 544. Where were the campers, all we saw were cars.
But as I always say, "I'm at MB so I have no complaints." I love the area and all it is.

We spent 2 vacations there for Easter, most recently this past Easter. We did enjoy it. However, after reading reviews of Myrtle Beach Travel Park, I went and did a drive-thru of that park. I must say that, next time we're in MB, we'll be staying at MBTP. The sites appear bigger, and the pool is very close to the beach, so you can get sites that aren't a far walk from either. There is also a lazy river, and I didn't see a single golf cart the half hour I spent there driving around. Wife said the bath house they visited was the cleanest she had ever seen.

I also have done a drive thru there but I would disagree with site sizes. I thought they were pretty close together. As for the carts, only permanents can have carts there. This makes a big difference.

Have you been to Pirateland? You can't get much more "close together".

that is weird they were all from the same area. I mean local and close is one thing, but exact same little town is very strange.

well, goes to show crime happens everywhere. OL is not the only place obviously. I think at some point alot of places with high activity are going to have problems. nothing one can do about it in the end. thanks for info.

That's 1 reason why I have moved to LW now. But PL is still my 2nd choice no matter how close. I was just making my comparison to what someone else said about MBTP.
