When I bought the HTT last summer, the sales person showed me the sewer hose that came with it and told me how much i didn't want to use it. what I needed to do was buy one of these other really nice ones. You all know the drill. I ended up buying one that he recommended. I figured hey, might as well get one that will last, right? I don't know the manufacturer, but it comes with a mount that stays on the trailer, and then the hose has a quick connect that fits to it. Nice, right?
I discovered this weekend why this may be a bad idea. The gasket in the mount failed, meaning water leaking whenever a full tank tried to dump (Fortunately I tested it using a little bit from the grey tank first). Now I'm an hour away from home with a full black tank and a leaking connection. Into the camp store I go, where they don't sell my particular fitting. My hose only works with the matching fitting, I can't hook up my hose directly to the valve without it.
I bought a $10 elbow piece, thinking if I could get the leaky fitting facing up, i'd have better luck. Nope, didn't work.
I removed the gasket from the fitting I just bought and tried it in the leaky fitting. Nope, that didn't work either.
I remember the original hose, the one the salesman says I don't want to rely on. It has the correct end to hook up to the trailer, but nothing to attach to the dump in the full hookup site I'm on. Back into the camp store I go where I spend another $13 on a screw on end fitting to my hose.
This seems to work, but in another test I find that the new end fitting I bought does not fit tightly into the dump fitting that goes with the old hose. Back into the camp store, where I spend another $4 on a generic rubber sewer fitting that does the job.
Could have been a lot worse, I guess. My goal now is to convert the original hose into something that can bypass that stupid mount so I don't get stuck like that again.

I had the same thing happen to me, and I resisted the urge to buy the small pipe end. Finally I came up with the right idea. I looked in the kitchen cupboard and had a tall plastic tapered drinking glass. The end of the pipe fit snugly into the wide end, and the narrow end fit into their sewer pipes. I cut out the bottom of the glass and presto, a perfect adapter.
Now I keep that converted glass in the same place as the hose.

When I started I had several different makes of hoses and adapters to connect them. Finally replaced the whole works with the Valterra system that uses the same fittings as the sewer connection. No more adaptors, all hoses connect to others easily.

I was talked into a very similar sewer hose where the fitting stayed on the RV. Easy connect and disconnect. Salesman claimed it was the newest thing and would last a lifetime of RVing. Lasted me 1 dump. Leaked all over. When I got home I sawed the fancy connector off with a hack saw and installed a standard sewer connector. Now it works fine. Sorry I wasted all the money on that hose.
I don't know if this will help you, but have you tried duct tape?

Duct tape fixes everything but in this case it probably won't fit the bill since it doesn't seal against water leaks. Happy, I know you were messing with him so don't get mad at me. I think that salesmen who push a product they probably know is faulty should be put away somewhere where they can't prey on the unsuspecting. Stay with the original hose and it will work great for you. We bought a FW in 1993 and used the original sewage dump hose for all the time we owned it with nary a leak. It only proved to be a little short once or twice and I just needed to move the FW a little closer to the dump hole and the problem was solved.
My first RV had no hose so I went online and bought a (Rhino?) $80 set up. Lasted about a year. Went and bought another expensive one and it lasted about a year. I now go to Wallyworld once a year and buy the $20 hose which lasts about a year...
Lesson learned.

Guess I never thought the standard bayonet fitting was slow enough to warrant a "quick connect". Sometimes simple is better. I still have the same cheap hose that came with the trailer over 6 years ago.
