My KD just stopped searching this weekend. I turn it on, hold the button down to initiate the search, and right hand light starts blinking the normal sequence of green, amber, red. At that point, it would normally start searching and blinking just red.
Now it just keeps blinking, so I've either blown a fuse to the drive motor, or have a limit switch that's not working. Will know more after I have time to climb up on the roof and remove the 14 screws holding the "NAPA hat" on and see if I can figure out what's going on.
PITA, for sure.

Jim,
Are you saying you cannot physically "hear" it searching? And that all that's happening is just the status light is flashing? While mine is not finding the bird, it does continue to search.

There is an entire series of checks you can go through that are all listed in the manual. The controller itself has a series of different self checks you can initiate. I know because I went through them all dozens of times. I also sent several different parts back and forth to the factory (at my expense) and changed them out and nothing fixed it. The dish would spin and move around searching, but it would never lock on. Like I said eventually the factory rep told me to remove the entire thing and ship it back to them. This was after about a year of messing with it and spending many hours on top of the motorhome. That's why I finally just chucked mine and got the new HD dish. I did like having in motion satelite, but can really live without it.

Many KD and KVH dome problems were linked to poor or "unclean" DC voltage. The fix was simple; power the unit with an AC adapter with 12VDC output. Using the recommended power supply instead of connecting to the coach batteries solved many problems.
I had a dome (KVH) and had some minor mechanical problems, but the biggest problem was, it would loose the signal whenever it rained. I sold it and installed a Winegard Traveller, and it works GREAT. One small disadvantaged in the Traveller vs a dome is, you have to make sure it's stowed (down) before driving off.

I would also see if there is a manual calibration procedure in your manual. On our KD TracKing 9762, it would have a dificult time locking onto the selected satellite. Finally went thru the manual calibration procedure that takes about 20 minutes and making sure the RV is stationary and stable during that procedure. After that it has worked great.
My Kingdome is Junk. I am waiting for it to finally die so I can replace it with a traveler and finally enjoy the HD TVs. The last time mine had problems, they also wanted me to ship the whole thing back to them. I took the antenna off the roof, pulled out the controllers inside the coach walls and was going to box it up. Got to thinking about how big a waste of time it was and hooked the whole rig back up on top of the picnic table. The antenna was searching, lights flashing etc and no signal was being found. I got even more angry and slammed the controller box hard onto the table. The stupid rig found a signal and locked on in about 30 seconds. I re-installed the whole mess and it worked fine for about another 6 weeks. It quit again, and this time I just pulled out the controller, slammed it against a countertop, re-installed it and no problems since. It still won't find a signal if I am parked beneath a twig, still won't work for HD, still rain fades out with a single rain drop, but it does work. All the rigs I have talked to with Travelers never have trouble with minor tree interference, light rain or anything else. I wish I wasn't so cheap as to throw away a working in-motion dish, otherwise it would have been gone two years ago.

Great tale. Sounds like a $50.00 Craigs list item, that way you can feel good about getting something for it to put towards a Taveler.

Well Gang,
I certainly appreciate your assistance here. I will try all of what many of you have suggested and, I'll dive into the manual to see if there's anything I've forgotten to test.
