What is the best route from Cincinnati, OH to Cookeville, TN pulling a 25-foot TT?

My GPS is routing me west on 60 out of Lexington, KY; then south on 127, then south on TN-111 to Cookeville. That's why I ask. The GPS route is shorter by about 70 miles but maybe the roads (switchbacks, sharp curves, steep grades, whatever) aren't very good to travel on.

That is the >very< scenic route. I would not advise it unless you want to really take your time. Actually did this a few weeks ago with my Casita, will take the longer way next time

I agree.

That sort of nonsense is why you can't depend on a GPS. That route might be 70 miles shorter but probably 2 hours longer. Yes it is a beautiful area, but only if you have a lot of time and like driving windy roads.

I live on 127 at the Lake Cumberland Dam and can advise that unless you are able to stop and take in the views and maybe even a possible overnight I would stay over on 75.

Be sure to check out the Tenn. ODot site concerning the reconstruciton of the south bound lanes that caved in earlier this year. THe cave in was north of Knoxville. 141mm I think.

I once started this route from TN and the switchbacks were really bad so I took a direct route to get on I-75 as quickly as possible.

Re-program your GPS to use the interstates more. Unless you like to travel mule trails.

Beware that I-75 at the KY-TN border has water damage and is down to one lane in both directions. You may be sitting in traffic for upwards of an hour waiting in the traffic as every car tries its best to get in front of you.

If you have an alternate route from Lexington, I would take it.
