That is why MPG numbers are all over the board on this forum. Unless you wait for the foam to dissipate and fill to the top of neck each time your MPG will be different. Unless your IB516
I suspect your gallons per tank reading is a safety feature margin. Don't want to run a diesel out of fuel, especially a CP4 HPFP
Titan makes a replacement tank for your truck which adds IIRC 15 more gallons. 26 gallons is just to small IMO.

That is the "burp" that says I'm full.

Also, my truck supposedly has a 26 gallon tank, but I can only account for 23 of those gallons. I've never had a refuel take more than 20.5 gallons, and I typically refuel with 50 or so miles left until empty (which equates to 3 gallons). I'm not sure if that's related to the fuel spilling issue or not.
This is my first diesel, so I may be doing something wrong. I had just assumed that diesel pumps would have the same auto-shutoff as gas pumps. Am I wrong?
Thanks!
I have a 2012 Ram 3/4 ton with the Cummins 6.7L engine and it has a 35 gallon tank. Also as someone else posted I learned not to pull up to the big rig pump islands as their pump flow is much greater that what ny little Ram can handle.

I also have the '11 F250 6.7L and I do not get overfill at all upon visiting my usual fuel stops. I have had overfill on a few rare occasions while traveling (not truck pumps). All pumps are not equal I guess.
NEVER run down to empty as others have said. I think the closest I have gotten is down to 75 MTE. You don't crank repeatedly either to get the fuel circulated, just turn the ignition part way, pause, repeat a few times (3-6 ? I forget). Same as when you change the fuel filters and have to re-prime.

And now if you can believe it, back to the question... No your not wrong, they do have the same shut-off and while I have seen this happen occasionally I have never had it happen to me even when the nozzle is fully compressed. I saw my sons older 1998 Ford do it maybe once or twice but he was trying to top it off. Whether by design or something else I would guess you have some sort of vent issue.

Must say on long trips I'm guilty of topping off, I get as much will fit into tank and filler spout. No problem of leaking because you're burning it off and within 20 miles its used a gallon. And I fill up around half because the there is always a chance you'll get bad fuel and you'll now where you got it from if motor starts acting up after you went thru 1/2 tank and no problems and the bad stuff will be delutied. And besides my bladder won't go much longet then 3 hours....
I do not top off around home because diesel does swell up with temp and it is not to good for your driveway, or wife telling you about it.

o4 chevy here and it will always burp fuel before the pump kicks off. I nurse it so it won't do that. i always fill slow towards the end to get fuel visible in the neck. From the pump kick off to actually full is almost 3 gallons due to the foaming of diesel. Doing this I get accurate MPG calculations as well

Since it is under warranty, why don't you take the dealer service writer for a fill n' see for himself?

Short bed has a small tank, i find it hard to believe ford couldnt have fit at least a 30 under the short bed.
Anyway i can hear a gurgle right before mine is full, i have the long bed some i can tell tell you if that is related to the tank being bigger.

I have a titan 62 in my truck. Most I have ever put in it is 55. After the pump clicks off, I "top off" about another 10 gallons.
