We are in the midst of buying a 2012 CRV AWD and want to be assured that it is a flat tow vehicle. The motor home book on towing is not specific on AWD it just states CRV and CRV 4WD.
The dealer says yes but they might be saying that to get a sale.
FYI the book says that the Ford Escape for 2012 is but the new motor home magazine says no. This was one of the vehicle we were looking at glad we decided not to.

I thought the CRV was a Honda vehicle not a Ford. Open the glove compartment, pull out the manual and look up towing, don't listen to the dealer.

The CRV is a Honda I was referencing that the Tow book says yes for the Ford Escape but now the MH mag says no.
I am interested in the Honda CRV which the book says yes but want to be assured that anyones personal info they might have. Thanks

The MH mag is in error in calling the CRV a 4WD. The CRV is AWD. Honda calls it Real Time All Wheel Drive.
There were so many problems with the Ford Escape transmission Ford recently said it is done with trying and re-listed it as not towable 4 down.

Actually the manual for my 09 Fit is titled Towing your vehicle behind a motor home. Towing would mean towed by a tow truck.

For the most accurate information, call the Mfg. i.e. Honda.

Go into the glove box and get the owners manual and look in the index for "towing behind a MH" then go to that page and read about it yourself. It will tell you how to do it. Great toad vehicle.

Yes it can. The owners manual gives specific instructions for setting the transmission, speed limits, fuse to pull for long time towing. They are all listed on page 235 and 236 of the owners manual, under Towing Your Vehicle (When your Vehicle is Towed Behind a MotorHome). We have just finished setting up our 12 CR-V AWD.
We use the valet key in the ignition and the regular door key to lock it up when towing.

PS the AWD must be towed 4 wheels down (or trailer) and cannot be towed on a dolly.
