What shocked me, one of the active McCoy's later became governor of West Virginia. Says a lot about the educational level of that state.

It was Henry D. Hatfield, and he was a little boy during the most active part of the feud. He was one of Devil Anse's nephews. He was a doctor, then a county commissioner, then state senator and president of the state senate, then governor. Then he became a major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during WWI, then a Senator, then back to private medical practice.

Now what was that about someone's educational levels???

I bet it was more than cheap labor that caused them to go to Romania. I bet US taxes and regulations played a part in it too.

Yes. Going overseas is cheaper than shooting in the USA, not because of taxes and regulations, but because producers want to take advantage of movie sets all ready in place from previous movies. Cold Mountain was shot in Romania during the early 2000s.

I thought the cinematography was slip-shod. Several scenes the film looked over exposed and the sunlit areas washed out. Yeah I notice weird things like that.

No, I do not believe this show stereotyped this area. Have you ever been to Eastern KY or Western W Virginia? I grew up in Western KY. That is light years difference between the hill people of Eastern KY and Western KY. In fact, it would be my guess that the real story of the Hatfield's & McCoy's would make them look worse.

In fact, there has not been a lot of change even today. This area still leads the nation in lack of education, low wages and poverty. In fact, the deep south (not northern area of the south like northern NC)lead the nation in lack of education, low wages and poverty. Some change but relatively speaking, still a very serious problem.

I believe some of you are misstating Costner's career. For the record, I'm a big fan and most actors would kill to have his success. Here are just a few of his movies;

Dances With Wolves - Silverado - Open Range (one great and 2 good westerns)

Bull Durham - Field of Dreams - For the Love of the Game - Tin Cup ( 4 excellent sports movie, Bull Durham maybe the best baseball movie of all time)

Message In A Bottle (I love this movie)

The Untouchables

These alone would get him in the movie hall of fame. Plus he directs and produces movies. Not like him personally is OK but you cannot deny his acting-producing & directing talent.

Yes, he has been a very successful film maker but I personally do not like him as an actor, especially if he has to open his mouth during a scene.

I love the ol' shoot'em up Westerns. Have ever since I was a kid. Gunsmoke, Big Valley, The Rifleman, etc. To me that's what this mini series was; comfort food for my western movie likes. With a bit of history thrown in.

Yeah, it was a little more graphic than The Waltons or Little House on The Prairie, but I enjoyed watching it. And apparently so did a lot of others... 'Hatfields & McCoys' makes ratings history

It was a made for TV movie and made for Cable TV at that. I'm sure the budget wasn't huge.

Leave us not forget Water World, which was based on an interesting premiss.
The there was Robin Hood, where Robin spoke with an America accent surrounded by others with English accents. A Robin Hood he wasn't.

The ending of the show listed what happened to the some of the family members over the period of almost 138 Years.

As for the southern accents, people have usually thought that it demonstrated stupidity and being slow witted, but it was only a variation of Scottish and Irish accents. Yall be good, hea.
