If you camp amoung people in tents pass on the gen and get some solar.
There are other ways to make, use, conserve power then just burning a bunch of gasoline.

If you follow the rules (ie hours of operation, spark arrestor installed, DB limit if applicable).... I don't give a damn if they hate me. I'm not there to make friends. I'm there to do what I want to do.
If THEY go to a campground and don't like it when other people do things they're allowed to do, it's their damn problem. Not mine.
Why stop with generators? Why not ask the question, "If I let my kids ride their bikes, will people hate me?".... "If I walk my dog..."
Go camp. Follow the rules. Enjoy yourself.

I had this problem but solved it very easy by using a battery charger and using the 1000 honda to power the charger and used the inverter during the evening. Not good if the AC is needed but works great for us when we used it for boondocking.
chevman Larry: I was just replying to the other guys post that the generator should only be run for cooling. I was making the point that some of use use more amp hours in a 24 hr period due to health equipment. My cpap can be used with an inverter but I also have a 12 volt adapter cord and can plug into a round 12 volt receptical. I still end up using about 60 amp hours a night and have to charge the batteries a little longer. Are you telling me that a built in surge protector keeps you from charging your batteries?

If you want to use a generator you should only use it in an area that permits generator use. You should also follow any time of day restrictions too. If you do not want to be near a generator you should only stay at areas that do not permit generator use.
Neither side is wrong or right. If you have a strong preference just pick somewhere that matches your desires.

The surge protector stops low power from entering the rv. So to charge our 4 12 volt batteries I plug into the front of the alpenlite the same as when towing. I have the plug that matches up with the trailer installed on the 15 amp battery charger. This allows the 4 12 volt batteries to charge. I tried a 2000 honda to connect to the normal way to get power and the honda shut off. Low power. I only say this because it works very well. If we were to be in a very low campground and the surge protector wouldn't allow power to enter I use a cord from the power from the park to run the 15 amp charger and use the 2000 watt inverter for electricity. I have done this also and it works very well. I have not been in a very poor rv park with low power for a while but have many times in our early years of winter travels. Just information.

No matter what you will not please everybody. If you do use one just use it respectfully. If somebody has a problem with it just take them out and show them where the bear ****s in the woods.

Was in a Flying J once with our gen running, along with 4 or 5 others that had theirs running.A big MH came and parked between us and asked us to turn off our gens--said it was not allowed in the parking lot as it was a quiet place to sleep. We told him of no such rule.Funny thing was he moved back into the truck parking area.

I have noticed quite a few posts stating, "if it's within the rules....., it's okay."
Why do you need a rule in place to be considerate.
The reason campgrounds created a rule indicating quiet times, is because people were not considerate and thus, the rule.
That inconsiderate attitude will eventually bring in a new "rule", effecting when and if generators can be used.
