Oh man. That's a bummer. Yeah, holiday weekend camping can be risky. You never know what kind of crowd is going to show up and how crowded it will be. We had a similar thing happen to us last Labor Day, so I feel for ya.
I've stayed at this particular KOA recently, and was not impressed. It was an okay park, but not worth the price, and had just become a KOA. They emailed me a survey a couple days after requesting my opinion, which I provided. Complementing their good points and pointing out where I think they need to improve. I was quite surprised to receive an email from their marketing person a couple days later essentially trying argue and refute everything I had mentioned as areas they could improve. Up until that point even though not overly impressed, since it was close, we had planned on returning for another weekend, but that is unlikely to happen now. Why send the survey if you don't really want to hear what I think?

I'm sorry for that not so good trip. Whenever we would choose a camping trip, we also choose times when there wouldn't be a lot of people. It is always on an "off-season" no holiday day. We always want to enjoy the place and not compete with other families.
Sorry for your "Bad experience". My former wife and I caped in a MD State PArk in the "Primitive area and THAT was an experince. In less than 8 hrs at the campsite we encountered a guy that had just gotten out of prison for armed robbery that was a heron addict and only had 1/2 of his right arm. He was shot from behind by the store owner he'd just robbed. He was also HIGH on god knows waht else. The "Crew" he was part of turned out to be the Pegan's Motorcycle Gang. They were super loud all night and then began shooting off guns at 3 AM. We left the follwing morning and as we did we were forced off the road by another "Group" of un-friendly's most of whom were carrying guns in the open on thiers belts ---- Next time you think a few people making noise is a problem -- Think about what we went thru that night and next day! We were just glad to leave with our lives and property.
BTW -- This was a Memorial Day weekend!!

I am sorry your first trip had such inconveniences, but as many said just think of it as "experience or adventure" and make plans for your next one. We almost always camp in Missouri State Parks, and the last several years have camped every holiday weekend we could. The only difference for us is that you have to get reservations early, but other than that, we have never had a problem. Yes, there are lots of people, but our experience has been they are friendly and considerate and we try to be also. The only time we noticed another site's "noise" was when a small band had a jam session and we all enjoyed the concert and they even took requests from outside their group....can't say I have ever visited, or plan to, a camp ground that big, but I am very proud of Missouri's incredible State Park system. I hope your next trip is much better!!
