2001 F250 7.3L Lariat - Crew Cab Long Bed with 111K miles:
- Air bags, Fox shocks, Built heavy duty transmission, Gauges, Back up sensors, 4" Exhaust.
Hopefully everything checks out! I will post pics as soon as I make a decision on a truck.
Well just got back from looking at this one, my mechanic gave me the thumbs down but boy I sure am glad he was there! Saved me a lot of headaches that I would have been walking into
On to look at a few D-Max's in the morning.....the saga continues.
Not that this is about me but I wasn't thrilled that the 01 7.3L was lifted with all of those mods anyway
Good luck tomorrow and update us when you get home...perhaps with pics of your new truck if it works out

Let's see how good my memory is:
Hole in the radiator, Leaking water pump, rear main seal was shot and dripping oil making its way to the ground, bad carriers bearing(s), blown rear shocks, bad rear brakes, mentioned something was funny in the steering (had allloot of slop), seal on rear diff?, a few other seals (I forget which ones now), alignment issues, and tires bald as hell and almost slicks lol..... I feel like I am missing a few things but thats all I can remember.
Even with him doing the work as a friend and discounted from his normal rate said it had 2500-3K to bring it back.
'02 with 78K miles. Nice looking truck!: Lift, rims/tires, airbags, on board compressor, exhaust, 2 new batteries, new pitman arm, idler arm, idler arm bracket, Fabtech HD tie rods, new serpentine belt, a few other small things.
We didn't see much wrong on this one, tires were real bad and mechanic also told me that brakes were coming up soon, he said this one looked real good though.
How nervous should I be about the injector issues the '02 year had?? That is the only thing holding me back a little. I called the dealer here and they ran the VIN and could not see that it had ever had an work done on it. Still all original everything as far as injectors and all that stuff goes.....unless they were done somewhere else, truck was back and forth between AZ and UT.
Some will dissagree but my opinion about the early D-max injector issue is not if but when.
Out of the handful of early D-max's my friends have owned ALL have had the injectors replaced. Some early, some late, some real late but all have had the first gen injectors replaced.
A friend just had them done with a few other nickle and dime stuff and the bill was a little over 5 grand.
I also wonder why brakes at 70k? I bet mine will have good brakes at 150K and that is not a fluke. Go ask around and you will find out this holds true.
For me no injectors no deal unless you can get 5 grand off of the price.

I think for that kind of stuff to be on it, it is missing a "1" ahead of the claimed odometer reading.
or severe overload over its rather short life.
My truck had the carrier bearings replaced and also broken springs.
But it was known to be overloaded for much of its very hard life of over 1/4 million miles.
I'd pass on an 02 dmax after owning one and having the injectors fail - as they all will with the lb7 engine. Also check for transfer case leak (pump rub). Not worth the bills you'll pay. 06 and up dmax are awesome.
I have owned an 01,an 03 LB7's. The 03 got the best mileage of any Dmax I have owned. I put the first 80K on it and never had an injector issue (actually I have never yet had an injector issue on any Dmax). Until the LBZ's came out the 03 was the prefered year, upgraded interior (01-02's sucked I thought) and did not have any of the LLY issues and were easier to program. The LBZ is as others have said the way to go. Its probably the most sought after diesel on the market and the prices reflect it.
