We have been to Blanchard Springs Caverns campground and loved it, except there was no electricity or water. It was wonderful with the creek running through the campground and the unmatched scenery. We are looking for a similar campground, for beauty, that has hookups. Does anyone know of one with comparable beauty with the water and woods in middle to northwest AR?

We really enjoy the campgrounds at Crater of the Diamonds SP but that is more South West than North West. Still, if you get down that way, it's a very nice place to camp. You don't have to dig for diamonds but we did once. I got me some diamond looking quartz out of there. Neat.

They have recently upgraded their campground but I've not made it down there since then. They had water and electric when we camped there but not sure about sewer. That's never a big deal for us because the tanks hold fine and we never dump until we are leaving anyway.

I think Hot Springs National Park, AR has a stream right at the campsites. But being in town, might not match the beauty you are looking for.

Just returned from a camping trip in Arkansas. Buffalo Point campground which is part of the Buffalo National River is quite nice...it has water and electric...its about 1hr drive NW of Blanchard Springs.

We also stayed at Withrow Springs State Park which is about 1/2hr south of Euraeka Springs. It's a small park...about 30 sites, very nicely treed, private sites with full hook-ups.

Both were fully booked on the weekends in mid May.

I was at Pettit Jean SP last year. It is a nice park and closer to NW than Crater of the Diamonds. I like COTDSP better though.

Toad Suck, Mt. Magazine, Withrow Springs, White River State Park, Blue Heron, we visit all of these at least once a year, if not 2 times on some.

Stayed for two weeks recently at Lake Ouachita State Park which is north of Hot Springs - wonderful park, on a Corps of Engineers Lake. On top of a mountain in the trees. They have full hookup sites

We just got back from Petit Jean, my 3rd time there, and it's very attractive. Be aware though of the Arkansas state parks CG refund (or lack thereof) policy. When I reserved over the phone for Fri and Sat nights, they told me the first night was non-refundable. When I arrived, they charged my card for the second night as well. I wasn't feeling well and we decided to leave before the Sat checkout time, but they then informed me that there would be NO refund for the unused day. They were, however, eager to make note of my departure so they could re-book the campsite and double dip.
