We are heading to Maine in a couple of weeks and I LOVE, absolutely LOVE lobster! Where is a good, cheap place to eat lobster in the southern to middle coast of Maine. I don't want to have to cook it, want it already steamed, placed on a plate and carried to me with a side of butter.

Yeah, but I thought it MIGHT get some responses! Compared to what lobster costs here in the mountains of SW Virginia, it is bound to be cheaper there!!!!

IMHO look for kids (well high school or college) who are cooking them along side the road (coast road, US-1 I mean). Often have picnic tables, sometimes tent covering. They usually have FRESH lobster, and we've found it better than most any restaurant (except maybe in Shedeack Canada, or however it is spelled).
Best lobster in VA likely gotten by calling 1-800-livelob, but that will NOT be cheap, just fresh and tasty.

Well, we cooked our own at the campsite, usually cost about $6.00 for a live 1.25 pound live Lobster. What we saw in the restaurants ranged from $19.95 - $24.95. Well worth it to cook your own. Some campgrounds would cook them for you and deliver to your campsite. They usually only charged a couple of dollars to cook them, other campgrounds would borrow you big pots to steam them in.

We didn't find cheap lobster out East, we didn't find cheap pineapple in Hawaii and we didn't find cheap fruit in Oregon/Wash. Same price as it was at home but had to be fresher.

we used to live there. If you see a Hannafords Grocery store they will steam them for you and have good prices on their seafood. I would think tho that any grocery store you see offers the same service. Good luck and enjoy your trip. And anywhere along Rt 1 you are gonna see tons of places, keep an eye out for the 2 for 1's.

On the way to Maine, stop in Essex, MA and try;
Woodman's
121 Main Street
Essex, MA 01929
(978) 768-6057
www.woodmans.com
Woodman's is the supposed original home of the fried clam.
It is a "Seafood in the Rough" restaurant. They have all kinds of fried seafood even lobster sometimes. They also serve traditional styeamed lobsters.
They were our favorite place while we lived in MA for 20 years.
We had our boat on the north shore in Newburyport and would end up there afterr boating. They can get very busy.
You might want tp spend a day or two in the area. You can visit Glouster and many small fishing towns along the coast. The coast roads are really nice drives.
