I have had a TruConnect MiFi for about 8 months now. $5/month to keep it active and you pay 3.9 cents per MegByte for data used. That is about what I was paying for my Verizon MiFi if I used the full GigByte they gave me for $50/month, if you run over it cost you another $50. Sprint is some what limited in coverage but covered most places I went regularly. I have since added an iPad 3rd generation for my wife with a Verizon pay as you go with hotspot. $20 for 1GByte and you can turn it on and off as you want a month at a time. The $20 rate you will have to pay another $20 if you go over and want more data. They also have a $30 rate that gives you 2Gbytes for a month and will auto add in 1Gbyte chunks for $10 when you run over. I believe there is also a $50 for 5GByte plan.
The TruConnect is so cheap to keep active I have left it on for now and on our most resent trip found places where it worked and Verizon didn't. I have also found places where neither worked and my ATT phone also didn't work.
Newbie question - if the MiFi price is reasonable, why ever deactivate it? Why not drop the home internet service and use the MiFi when not on the road as well?
I'm currently paying for home internet at 3 locations, and thinking of dropping all of them for a decent MiFi plan that will also work when I'm camping. Am I missing something, or is this a good plan?
I found a bit more about the Walmart deal I was looking at- http://www.internet-go.com/. What I like is no monthly fee, just a useage fee, which is a bit high, but as long as you use some once a year, the gb never expire- the prices are:
$10 100MB
$25 500MB
$50 1000MB
The hotspot costs $120, but for me this sounds perfect- a few times I need access I can have it, but in between times the cost is zero.
Wow sounds like a rip off to me 1000 MB for $50 when Millenicom you get 20 GB a month for $70 and no contract. Not even close.

But- how much does it cost for me to check email once a month? Do they charge a full month for any access? I could wind up paying $70 for a few kb of data.
It's like my phone- I pay a high $.10/minute with rollover- $100/year . Right now I have over $200 credit, because I don't need or use it, but the cheapest plan is way more than it costs me.
Any data use at all you will be pushing your limit . Also that device is on The Sprint Network . The Millenicom device is on the Verizon network that has much better coverage . Look at the Coverage maps they have . West of the Mississippi is sketchy at best.
