The ESC module is integrated into the brake controller. If an ESC event is happening the brake controller will apply the trailer brakes.
The trailer brake controller has automatic speed proportional calibrations based on vehicle velocity. It is always changing gain.
Remember to select the trailer size in the EVIC. It will change the initial gain of the controller.

I've got a 2011 Ram 2500 and wish it was easy to change out the integrated Brake controller but there are a lot of problems in doing that on these vehicles. I don't think the one I have is tied in to the brake hyd system at all. My guess based on behavior is that it's partially inertia based, partially time based.
When towing a trailer that needs the controller adjusted up high, say 7 or higher things seem to be acceptable. If you're towing a trailer that doesn't need the brake adjustment to be adjusted very high, you'll find that you can't drive with light brake application for over a second or so without the brake controller kicking the brakes on and stopping you abruptly. The only way you can avoid this when manuvering slowly in a tight area is to get out and disconnect the trailer electrical connector.

Mine is set all the up to "10". Not enough braking. Every time I tow my front wheels get covered with brake dust. My truck is doing most of the work. I have never seen a number higher than "4" on the readout when my brakes are applied. The trailer brakes are not doing anything when I'm almost stopped and I have to manually apply the to get a smooth stop. All of my systems have been checked and they are supposed to working as normal. Some people have had problems, others haven't. Chrysler must be aware of this as they changed brake controllers on the 2012 models. Now you can adjust them for how heavy a trailer you are pulling. I found the info on this forum on how to retrofit to a P-3. I have one all setup and ready to install. Just haven't gotten to it. That's my story and I'm sticken to it.

I currently am trying to install an aftermarket break controller in a 2005 Dodge 1500. The instructions say to plug the adaptor wire into the 4 pin connector left of the steering wheel near the emergency break pedal. I cannot see any where to plug the 4 pin connector in at. The truck has the seven pin connector in the rear bumper so I am assuming it is already set up with the tow package. Now I am reading there may be an OEM break assist in the truck already? How and where can I find out if it is set up from the MFG with this already installed?

I don't think they had an integrated brake controller available in 2005. If they did you would see it on the lower left side of your dash. It will look similar to the brake controller you are trying to install. You should have the female half of the plug you need attached to the bracket for the emergency brake up pretty high under the dash. A dealer or trailer hitch installer should be able to show you.

I am looking into taking an integrated brake controll module from my Dad's 2012 and installing in to my 2011. A high up Chrysler rep talked to engineering for me and they said the only problem is that the EVIC may not recognize the 2012 controller on my 11. We will see!
The 2012 controller works great. You can select light or heavy and electric or hydraulic.
People that have used the Max Brake and then use the 2012 controller say the integrated works just as good or better.

Thanks I saw the plug you are talking about, I didn't know if that was just to activate the brake lights. I will pull it and wire it up.
