In my time, Oh, and yes, I am sort of a dinosaur, we were taught to respect our neighbors and not cause distress to them. Oh, but now we exist in the "entitled" society where everyone must yield to, and observe, all anatomical juvenile behavior.
Really. I was a kid once too, and we were told that a campground was not our backyard. I haven't RVd since the '70's, when we generally didn't hear much from campsite neighbors except normal, conversational tone. Now I find I've got screaming kids on one side and yelling adults on the other. The dogs, it seems, are generally more well-behaved than the people.
I think parents and old people (like me) should both try to be aware of the situation and behave accordingly. It is absolutely unreasonable in a typical State Park environment to expect kids to be quiet and stay at their campsite. On the other hand, excessive noise, or invasion of someone else's paid up camping space, especially at night and very early in the morning, is simply inconsiderate and wrong whether kids or adults do it. Do we have to have ironclad campground rules for every possible situation in order to regulate behavior? Can't we just be respectful and reasonable in our expectations of others?
I agree. Sure, there are a lot of grumpy old people in the world. But there are far more non-grumpy old people and they are an absolute joy to spend time with along with the kids or grandkids. For those that are grumpy, their bad attitudes only make themselves miserable. I certainly won't let them ruin my fun - or that of my grandbabies.
Those who want peace and quiet and who want to get away from it all can find over 55 CGs where everyone else is a senior and looking for the same things. Also, there are places people don't go with kids because there is nothing for the kids to do. As people camp and ask around, they learn where these places are.
If we still had small kids we would look for family CGs, and not choose those aimed at seniors and the childless looking to enjoy nature, peace and serenity.
Yikes, I thought camping was ABOUT peace and quiet and getting away from it all! And I'm not even 55.

Here's a news flash, one doesn't have to be over 55 to expect fellow campers to keep their children under control and from disrupting others camping experience. Adults of ALL ages expect other campers to be respectful of others and follow CG rules.
No one should 'have' to seek out an over 55 resort to be able to enjoy their camping experience away from children who don't know the meaning of respect for others.
It is the parents that have no regard to CG rules, think they can let their children run wild thru the park without any manners and respect for others.....they are the ones that need a wake up call and should be evicted a few times by Manger's that do enforce CG rules. Perhaps then and only then they might just get the idea that a CG is NOT their personal backyard but a park for 'everyone' to enjoy.
I'm shocked to see so many reply's from parents that truly believe that their kids should be able to do anything they like in a CG and that all other campers should just deal with it.

I agree - I find the shriek kids make when they've been happily surprised is just the BEST sound :-) Also - kids who have been playing hard (and making noise) all day, tend to sleep soundly at night!! A bonus for parents and surrounding campers alike!

Would you please reference which posts on this thread stated such? I don't recall reading any that said "my kids should be able to do anything they like", at least not from posters who identify themselves as parents or give other indication that they are talking about their own children. Let's not confuse what a poster says about children being able to run free from ones who are parents and say that.
I am shocked at the inferences, mass assumptions and broad categorizations slammed around against any and all groups of people listed here, be they the unruly wasted youth or the crusty curmudgeons, the empty nesters, the fur-parents, the Partridge families or the soloists.

Now who could disagree with this… good start...

Again who could disagree, but wait a minuet !!!
Are we embellishing a bit just for effect, or did someone say this??? And who determines at what point a Childs laughter or playing becomes disrespectful??? You or the rules???

Absolutly not so and needs to be checked... It is generally the adults that have no regard for the rules… some of them are parents of young kids, some whose family has grown, and some that never had kids, and then there is the pet owners and non-pet owners… some from all these groups ignore rules or obey only the ones they think make sense to them… I would love to see the rules enforced but that would include tossing out the guy sitting quietly at his site sipping his adult beverage when the rules say NO ALCOHOL PERMITTED…
The thing is it is not anyone’s personal backyard, it is a park to be enjoyed by all including kids and enjoyment means something different to everyone… the reason behind having rules…

Maybe its my reading comprehension but you either made this up again for effect, but I surly don’t recall reading any one say their kids should be able to do anything they like
…
SHOCKING IS, It seems so many and the only ones saying that are the ones trying to make something from nothing…
