I installed my steer safe, and I can't see how the spring would fly off unless maybe the spring itself was defective (weak spot in the spring), or the spring was not put on correctly.
See if the manufacturer will give you a new spring.

Sorry it took so long to reply but i havent had internet for a while.I noticed that the eyes that the springs attach to none of the are tightened all the way down.steer safe says these eyes need to be tightened all the way down to the bar.I think this will be my problem.any thoughts on this being the reason for the spring coming off.Basicly not enough tension on the spring.
I installed one myself on a '93 Chev chassis (42,000 miles) and one on a '97 chev chassis (53,000 miles) and never had a spring pop off. When installed correctly those springs are fiddle string tight and no way could you remove one without loosing the adjusting nut on the eyelets even if you tried. Someone undoubtedly slipped the springs on but forgot to tighten them up. Probably went on coffee break and forgot what he was doing.
Good suggestion above to contact the installer and get a new spring plus correct installation instructions. Also, if you weren't able to find the popped off spring could it be hanging up underneath the front end someplace?
yea i thought the same thing but no luck finding it underneath.I ordered 3 springs from steer safe tuesday and they havent arrived yet.If their not here by monday im giving them a call.I thought it would be a good idea to have some extra ones just in case it happens again.
I agree that if the install was done correctely, I don't see how in the world if could ever come off by itself. Unless you had a Defective Spring to start with.
But even that one is hard to believe. I could see maybe one end of a Spring Breaking, but not both ends at the very same time.
But as life has some weird things happen, who knows for sure. I still believe that who ever installed your "Steer-Safe didn't do a very good job.
Adding a "Steer-Safe" to our Motorhome was one of the best Mods we have done to our Motorhome. We Love our "Steer-Safe". What a big differance it made in our Motorhome going down the roads. So good, I can easily steer now with just one hand.
Maybe you can use the extra springs for another project some day.
When one spring is in tension, the other is compressed from the neutral position, I think if not adjusted properly, it could/would fall off. I think, not positive, probably installed incorrectly
