We just left the Page-Powell campground. We used it for a one night lay over before moving on to Bryce. The campground isn't bad but can be crowded. Some trees and overall not bad. I would stay again. Go into town and you can find all the rentals you want. On a scale of 1-10 the campground is about an 8 according to DW.

Tis another fine day to serve in and for the glory of the Corps. Every day is a holiday and every meal a feast.

At Lake Mead there are two nice primitive CG's that cost $10/nite or half that if you have your Senior Pass card. The one closest to the dam is Boulder Beach and there's a nearby marina where you can rent boats. The other CG is closer to the Henderson end of the lake, very near Lake Las Vegas and is called Las Vegas Bay. Right next to Boulder Beach is a concession run CG called Lake Mead RV Village. Very nice views and the lake front spots are about $42/nite FHU. Decent laundry rooms and equip.

On lake Powell you can go to Wahweep CG that has FHU and a nearby marina where you can rent boats. The CG is pretty nice and has good views. Good laundry room & equip.

I've stayed at the Boulder Beach RV park on Lake Mead several times and I like the place. But I've always stayed on the "lake front" pads cause they are concrete and bigger, but cost more. The marina is close by but I'm not sure about rentals. You can call the marina at 702-293-3484. The campground doesn't take reservations but I've never had a problem getting a site.

Getting off topic a little bit because I don't know how you are travelling from Mead to Powell, but if you are going near Zion and Bryce, they are can't miss NP's. We were at Bryce about this time a number of years ago and it was absolutely over-run with people. We ended up staying at a USFS campground west of Bryce called King's Creek near Tropic Reservoir. It was almost empty at the time and a great respite from the crowds. Did have to boondock though.

King's Creek CG

Hopefully some useful info, if not, sorry for getting off track.

I would second the Wahweep CG at Lake Powell. Been there 2x in the past and will be there again the end of July.

You didn't say for sure when you were going, but it sounds like right away. You'll probably bust the 100 degree mark, and finding much in the line of trees in that area is tough. It gets hot during the day, which is just all the more reason to play in the water. The Wahweep campground mentioned by others is one of the nicer ones in the area, and offers full hook ups. There are some trees, but it is a desert, and trees are few and far between. We were there last the weekend prior to Memorial day and the temps were already busting 100. (It didn't even cool down during the eclipse we watched from there)

If you're going to be in a houseboat, I recommend finding a camping area in one of the smaller side canyons as the wind can kick up some good sized waves in the more open areas. You might also want to find an area with higher terrain towards the east of you to keep you in the shade longer in the morning as the housboats heat up quickly when the sun hits them.

As for the dog, the one we had prior to our current one handled the heat of that area nicely, and would love playing in the water. Our current dog doesn't handle heat well at all, and although she loves the water, we don't take her in the summer as it's just too much for her to handle.
