Alright so this is my first post on this forum and I just want to thank everyone for all the info I have already found. Secondly, I only have a basic understanding of towing and trailers. My family all has toy haulers and now that I have time and money to do so, I would like to join them.
My tow vehicle is currently being built. Before I tell you what it is, I completely understand that it is built for offroad and not so much a tow vehicle secondary to the suspension. It is a 2012 Ford F150 SVT Raptor Supercrew. It has a 6.2L V8 and will have the same big tow package that the other F150's come with. Trailer brake also included.
Here goes some numbers for you guys:
Base curb weight: 6210
Payload capacity: 1020
GVWR: 7300
Maximum GCWR: 14700
Maximum trailer tow: 8000
My main question being is, what should my dry trailer weight be? How long of a toy hauler can I get?
My girlfriend and I don't have any "toys" yet but who knows. We really like the layout of my families trailers and the option to open the back and chill. We don't want anything crazy but something that's nice.
A fifth wheel is way out of the question seeing as I only have a 5.5 bed.
Sorry for the lengthy post.
Thanks for any help that you guys can give me. I look forward to hearing back.

Welcome!
It's not gonna work in my book. Problem is suspension. GVWR of the truck is 7300lbs and base curb weight of that unit(sans add ons) is 6210lbs. This leaves you only 1020lbs of payload before you add anything onto that truck. That's before you load wife, kids, dog, beer, firewood, coolers, etc. You will be out of payload before you even hitch up a trailer. Let alone a heavy pinned toy hauler. Sorry, but I think you should cancel your build or tranfer your deposit to a different truck.

Jared, your truck will have no problem pulling that one. I'd check and see how well those trailers hold up. IIRC, when I was looking at them, they had some delamination issues.

That;s more money than I want to spend. I just keep going back and looking at it. Seems like a sweet unit. I thought maybe the OP would like to see it.

Great truck the Raptor but unfortunately not designed for even a moderately sized toy hauler. No truck can do it all and if you are really serious about pulling a toy hauler trailer you are going to rethink your truck purchase. I've pulled dozens of different types of enclosed trailers starting back some 35 years ago whe I was 16 and racing motocross. I currently have 3 enclosed trailers with the largest being a 29' for hauling up to 5 heavy Harley's. Many times we pulled far more weight than we should have and tore up several tow vehicles we overloaded while we were pretty unsafe while doing so. You won't be happy using any truck if you are near it's maximum capacity and all you will do is ruin it and regret your decision. Just my 2 cents worth as they say. Hope it helps.

Why not just buy a decent 18' travel trailer for now. They come up all the time used for 5k or less. Use it for a while, then when you do get toys and can afford a bigger truck upgrade, you'll not loose a dime on the R.V.

The Raptor should have no problem pulling a Hobbi, or several other single 20ft THs

You will be over your max payload with almost any TH, I would change the truck as well but if you are set on it I would stick to the 18-19ft range.

Your raptor isn't made for pulling. You really should be looking a different truck.
