We are wanting a 5th wheel bunkhouse and cougars seems to be a little more sleeker looking and fit lower to the cab while Sierras are a little taller, the one we are looking at has cathedral ceilings. Do they pull about the same...we like the Sierra better but don't want to kill our gas mileage...we are pulling with a Chevy Duramax shortbed.

Fuel mileage when towing any "brick" thru the air wouldn't matter much with a few inches of height differences. The smoothness of the newer nose caps on most 5ers do help a bit.
The only real aerodynamic 5er was the Titanium by Glendale RV up in Canada, and they went out of business at the beginning of 2010.
Very much like the hi-tech big rig aerodynamic caps. Titaniums were refered to as "The World's Most Aerodynamic and Best Engineered Fifth Wheel." They had the same interior floor space as a regular 5er, yet were 15% less "as towed" length. If it's a 36 footer it is equivalent to a 41 footer because of the patented forward extension.
My posts shouldn't be taken for factual data. They are purely fictional, for entertainment purposes and should not be constituted as actually related to scientific, technical, engineering, legal, spiritual or practical advice. Amen.

I agree with FSD; you'd likely see minimal mileage difference between them.

I believe Heartland is now making a few models with the Titanium design.

Heartland Big Horn TI(tanium) Edition! That's so cool and a tribute to Glendale's Titanium!

I would be surprised if you see much if any difference in mileage. Besides what difference does it really make to get 10 mpg instead of 9?

Would you go with a Sierra or Cougar then? Those are the 2 we are between. We are looking for Quad bunks...we are located in Springfield, IL and looking a dealerships close by so those are our choices...

Whichever one you like best. They are about equal in quality. I own a Sierra.

The Sierra is about a foot taller, you don't think that's too much to pull for just weekend campers?

To me that probably equates to a foot taller ceilings in the front bedroom which is very important to someone who's 6'5".
