Whenever we drive by on a weekend it looks so nice along Rincon Parkway in Ventura, California. The question I have is what evening of the week would I have to arrive to get a spot for the weekend?
I guess I also need to know if there is a limited number on nights I can stay.
And finally if I choose to park and drive back and forth to work is it safe to leave a locked rig there for a couple of days during the daytime?
Any past experience / kmowledge is greatly appreciated.

and look at remarks. Info of where to look up is listed in remarks.
(To cheap to buy new)
1990 37 ft 5th wheel that hasn't moved since 1996 (our best home)
1997 33 ft trailer (winter home in much warmer climate)
2005 25 ft M/H (our "stand up B" for traveling)
Not that this will help any, but just drove past about 2 hours ago and there were plenty of open spots...not empty by any means but still room. Last Wednesday night when I drove by, there were also spots available. Good Luck

We camped there in Sept. last year. Arrived on a Thursday and was able to find a spot. Drove by the Monday after Mother's Day and there was plenty of room. Tuesday or Wednesday would be the best day to arrive. There's an "Urban Legend" that some Ventura County firemen keep a group of some of the best sites occupied year round. Here's a link that will gives more info: Rincon Parkway info

It's hardly an "urban Legend". It's common knowledge what goes on up there, the locked out spaces during the summer, the rotation of them, who runs it, and the primary "members" of this click, but there is no reason to go into that here. It's well known to the ranger who will openly acknowledge the goings on (even tho one of the mods has shut down past threads concerning this citing "no proof"... talk to the rangers), but they can't do anything about it. I can tell you by space where they are, but whats the point other than they occupy ~10% of the area during late spring, summer , and early fall.
Sorry, perhaps "urban legend" would be a better term, but I hardly believe it's "common knowledge" to the average RVer looking for a site at Rincon, that there is an organized effort by a clique(correct spelling) to keep the best sites to themselves(look for tiki torches). I only became aware through a friend whose brother lives in the area. Bottom line, if you arrive mid-week you should be able to find a site.
I can tell you don't frequent the area at all if your information comes through 3rd and 4th party channels, because thats not fact . This time of year there are people cruising the area in droves on Wed just to be there on the weekend.
You might want to check out Rincon Parkway Camping @ Facebook. Friends of the page use mobile divices to update the page with site advailibility and other information about the Rincon. I have used the page to find out that if there was any open spots, before I left home. The page can sure help take away some of the anxiety of driving 2 hours to go camping not being sure if you will get a spot.
Known issue. Ventura County Board of Supervisors made some changes to that "campground" this Spring, to prevent cliques, rentals, friends from using the same spaces all summer long. Local newspapers have reported about the abuse. Rangers "claim" they have not seen a problem.
There is a theft problem at Rincon, has nothing to do with "the clique" renting spaces all summer long. It's camping on a road. Locals will steal things when the train (which is within a stones throw) goes by. Like generators, cabled, chained, locked, cemented to the ground or not.
Is there a problem? Yes. The govt changed the rules to deal with it. Will they follow through? Don't know.
One of the fire guys stationed right down the road keeps a PUP at the station and uses it to save spaces when apparently for whatever reason someone must not show up. It's been seen at the station as well as in spaces, never (at least I've not seen it) open.
On top of everything else, a few also killed by drunks in the last several years drifting into the "campground" too.
