Hi. I have a question regarding the roll out awning on our trailer.

Will it damage the internal spring by leaving the awning rolled out all the time??? We are parked on a seasonal resort, so we just leave it rolled out even when we go home for the week.

Viking,

I personally would not leave my awning out if I was not there.
If a gust of wind blows, it may torque, bend or destroy your awning.

Just my 2 cents~

For the few seconds it takes to roll it up I wouldn't leave it out to the elements to destroy while you are gone. We even roll ours up when we take out the boat for a few hours and at night.

To answer your Direct Question, NO there will be no harm to the spring. As others have said though, Wind will damage alot more than just the springs if given the chance. I lived that Nightmare myself. Easier to roll up when not in use than to replace and fix a broken one. We roll ours up if going farther then an hour away weather for supplies, or if we wont be back for a few days. If we are just going on a boat ride or somewhere close we keep it out.

I hear ya'll!!

We are pretty sheltered where our lot location is. Even when the wind is gusting 30-40 mph we probably only have a 10-15 mph wind at our trailer.

Ours comes out over our deck and I actually have the posts fastened into the deck boards to keep it immobile even from someone walking by and just running in to the pole. We've been leaving it out because it's just one more thing to do upon arrival every firday or packing up on sunday. My main concern was that I didn't want the spring to wear out prematurely, but we just start rolling it up every week anyway.

I would never leave the awning out and leave for more than the afternoon. One good pop-up storm and you can lose your awning.

I would think just the sun exposure alone would shorten it's life, let alone hail and wind.

Maybe you could rig up some type of socket for the legs to go in?

like others have said, I would roll it up during the week if you're not going to be there.

I leave mine out from the time I set up til the time we leave. I keep stuff under the awning and if I were to put it up every night then I would have to find new homes for the chairs and other things I leave out while camping if it were to rain. And if there is a good chance of rain I will tilt it before going to bed at night.

Leaving it out will not harm the springs any more than leaving it rolled up will.
