I used mine to check the condition of my radiator. I took multiple readings across the top and down to the bottom at about a 3 in grid pattern. A blocked or partially blocked section would be cooler. What I found was an even drop in temperature from left to right and top to bottom. It was about 190 at the top and 140 at the bottom. My conclusion was that the radiator was working as it should.
I put my bowling balls out in the sun to bake the oil out of them. During the baking, I check their temperature with my IR gun, to be sure they do not get too hot.
