We're headin to the horse park in a week and just wanted to find out what all there is to do and see in the area other than the horse park itself. We will be there for a entire week and we wanted to do a little sight seeing, a little horse park stuff and a little of nothin too! Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated!! Thank you!!!
Be sure and take the horse farm bus tour. This was very interesting to us. There is the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, about a half hour away. The Mary Todd Lincoln House is in Lexington and open for tours. We are baseball fans and the Lexington Legend is a great minor league park. There is also a horse training center where you can tour and watch thoroughbreds being trained, talk to trainers etc. I don't think you need much help with the "doing nothing" part!!!
Both retired. Travel with Nicky the Schnoodle. Son graduated and is teaching high school math. We still love our 2006 34' Allegro Bay XB and have 40,000+ miles on her.
Drive the old road to Frankfurt. Beautiful horse farms, a few historic buildings, rock fences. I can't remember the name of the road but the folks in the office can help you. Some kind of "Pike" or "Post" road best I can recall. Near Shaker Village is a boat ride - not expensive, interesting, quiet, historical.
All of the above. We visited in May and the AAA city map for Lexington was very good for showing all the roads you could take for a scenic drive. Also the Floral Clock and capitol in Frankfort.

We've camped at the Horse Park while attending Keeneland Race Course just west of Lexington near the airport. They only race there in April and October, but horse are stabled there throughout the year and work out during the morning hours. They also offer simulcasting and betting for races at other track around the country. You can walk though the horse barns and see the activities associated with horse racing.
University of Kentucky is located just west of downtown. Driving along Paris Pike, east of I-75 is a great drive if you enjoy old horse farms.
Lexington is pretty much about horses. It's a beautiful area too.
