I have never over nighted at a WalMart but have at a funeral home, Cracker Barrel and several truck stops and rest areas. Usually pull in between 10:00pm and 1:00am and back on the road no later than 7:00am. This guy sounds like he was camping.

We have kids in Illinois and RV there to visit. There are no RV parks, campgrounds, or forest preserves that allow RVs within 15-20 min. of the Wal mart in question. There are some nice ones out west toward Rockford or south near Joliet, all a lot more than 20 min. from Glen Ellen. If I have missed a new one I'll be looking. Peter

I always wonder why people have to throw in statements about large amounts of cash in their immediate possession. Most sane people would low profile that fact if that were the case. I now pity any Prevost owner who stops at a rest area to stretch their legs!

In my mind, Walmart is a place to stop over-night while traveling, pick up some of whatever you need as provisions then move on in the morning. For some folks, they seem to treat Walmart similar to a destination, I have never really understood that.

Wal Mart is always the most expensive "campground" we ever stay at. Usually we stay at one in Ohio on the way to Florida......the DW goes in to the service counter EACH TIME we've done this and asks if it is ok. I turn on the tv, make a snack and wait HOURS while she loads up for the trip......Never spent less than $250 bucks loading up on food and supplies.
Gotta ask first or you could be in for a knock on the door at 3:00 a.m. which can be a bit unnerving.

I agree and assume he was the one who gave the value of the coach. I also wonder how the news got wind of this important story? I would bet a dollar he called them to toot his own horn about all his money.

Glenellen, Illinois WalMart had a 1.2 million dollar Prevost towed off it's lot.
There were signs about trucks.
The Guy had parked there before.
We have thought about over nighting at Wal Marts when the hour is late and there is no RV Park but haven't.
RVers will definately not be patronizing this one as much.
Genereally we probably spend a couple hundred bucks when we stop at Wal Mart for food and other necessities on the road.
well the thing thats really wrong is the fact this aint no 1.2 million dollar RV to begin with. Its a old 2000 prevost convertion thats worth 300K TOPS.

WalMart has their policies, and as long as we abide by them, we will have a place to stop. Oftentimes, WM is pressured to keep RV'ers from overnighting - this is done by the local government at the behest of local campgrounds.
Not knowing the whole story, I cannot see WM doing this unless it was a blatant violation. And someone mentioned the value of the A.....maybe the owner "thought he had the right" to park without asking - we all know this can and does happen! Anyway, we all get a lesson from this one - make sure we ask before we park for the night. Safe travels.
PS: Wonder what the price of the tow and impound bill, wow!!!
