Wow...Hope no one was hurt. In just one minute this 5th wheel is a raging inferno. Looks like a fridge fire started it. The wind obviously didn't help either. If you were sleeping you would only have seconds to get out.

I'm almost paranoid now that I've seen how fast a fire can move in an RV under the right conditions.

Perfect example of why EVERY camper should have multiple smoke, CO2, and propane detectors installed and checked on a regular basis, along with an escape hatches.

Really though, a lot of houses can go up just as quick, I've seen it happen. It's wise to be aware of the potential issues and dangers, but I don't think it's something to be paranoid of either. If it really was that big of an issue, we would be hearing stories all the time of people dying in these fires, which we really don't when you consider the number of RVs out there.

yes stick houses go up just as fast. there is so many things in homes and RV's that are petroleum based that every thing just explodes and burns horribly fast. not mentioning the glues used that are highly flamable

Have the smoke alarm, propane sniffer and carbon monoxide in good condition and fresh batteries on all, replace batteries when you change from winter to daylight saving time on the fire alarm.

We have a special tool that is made in germany that brakes windows and cuts seat belts, it is handy for yust that, I can reach it when i'm driving or the wife when we are sleeping.

We have "C" class and I made a rope ladder that is attached to the upper frame of the big window of the cab over, the procedure is to brake window throw blanket on sill crawl out on ladder to hood and the pavement or dirt.

If there are recals for equipment as in refrigerator, or cruise control or microwave, have the recal done, it is foolish not to do so.

Be aware and be safe

That is indeed frightening. Everyone should have an escape plan from their RV, and at home.

Looks like some/most of you missed this in the Fifthwheel forum. The owners are forum members and were enroute to Alaska. They were inside the store and heard an announcement over the store's PA system. Their truck was fine, but their dog died in the fire.

AFAIK, they bought another 5er in Mitchell and are once again on their way to Alaska.

Most of us here do not have a 5`er we didn`t see the post. sorry to hear about their dog! very sad! that does indeed look like a fridge fire. and yes the wind definitely fueled that fire to the point it took off in seconds. just another reason why I don`t like the fridge running on propane, I`m assuming it was on proane?

I wondered the same, Googled and found one called Life Hammer that is $14.95 on Amazon or sold at Ace Hardware. I'm going to look for two today for car and van.

Been meaning to, as we have water and bridges everywhere we drive, and we were just talking yesterday about a woman in our area who lost consciousness and hit a tree, another foot would have been in the water.

Thanks for the safety reminder. I'm appreciating the back doors right behind my head when I sleep in our Sprinter after seeing that video.
